Is the turbo too much? I could lose the cast iron half and just polish up the compressor section. Sticking out the hood like certain infamous Grand Nationals you may remember. Thinking of making this a "flagship" project more than something that will be for sale. Probably 24 volts, 10mph or so. It should be capable of opposite lock!

That's pretty rad that the hood comes off and the "motor" is inside.

Under the hood of my kid's Jeep is just the battery. Meh.

Just looked at your FB page - are you who I ask about how to fix the crappy, used Jeep I bought? If not, any resources you can point me at?

These are made by Safety 1st. Their stuff is pretty detailed. It even has engine/burnout sounds, headlights, tailights, and even turn signals. The downside is to make all this stuff work they need a circuit board which is prone to failure and makes it hard to "upvolt". We are going to have to completely rewire this one to make it fast. We do some pretty cool stuff with the jeeps, its kind of our signature ride:

Been there, and there's a lot of info. Maybe too much. Any suggestions on basic (or the best) upgrades?

It depends on what youre looking for. More speed? Better traction? Lift? Basic repair?

A simple upgrade for better run time is to swap out the battery for a 12v 12ah ups battery. The number one problem these rides have is the batteries. You can remove the top of the old battery to get the connector and put it on something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-12Ah-W… and it will increase the run time significantly. here is a video explanation of how to get the connector:

I think my biggest complaint is the on/off throttle. My kids' heads snap back every time they go.

I'm also looking to fix the horrible camber/tow issue in the front, but found a couple write-ups about that.

I'll check out the battery upgrade as well. Thanks!

ive never done it but some people on there were using ryobi 18v cordless drill trigger switches for variable throttle. otherwise you could go 24 volts and run a scooter controller with a hall effect pedal but thats a pretty serious project not for the faint of heart.
