I sooooo would have joined them. Why didn't they invite me? Driving sub- € 1K carburetor cars almost 3000 kms through Europe in three days sounds exactly like my kind of thing. Also: severe duurtlang-bait!

Wow, this is so cool. Great, scenic roads with cheap, jalop cars—I approve!

It probably wasn't in mint condition. And this being Europe, they aren't THAT RARE that they command high prices for mid-to lower range cars.

It's the most desirable model year of the 140-series, with the facelift and small bumpers. It didn't look that bad either, but still not mint. An automatic gearbox would set the price further down, but still. You'd struggle to get a decent running 1973 142 for that price here in Norway/Sweden..

Sorry, I forgot that you are from Norway.

Well, I don't know how steep the rules are. With most of these things, you need to have a receipt that the vehicle was less than XX amount of money when you bought it, but no one asks you how much money you put into it afterwards.

I obviously don't know about this particular trip, but in the rally I participated in which supposedly was about €500 <1998 cars there were lots of people who clearly broke the €500 rule. We didn't need any proof for the price requirement. Street legal undented Audi A8 reliable enough for a 2000+km trip in winter conditions through the Alps for €500? Yeah right. The organization didn't seem to care much, although they recognized the unrest among other competitors and thus said they would be a bit more stringent the next season.
