Looking for parts for my '64 Chevy C10, I answered a Craigslist ad for a " Junk 1962 Truck " That was abandoned by a tenant. I asked what it was and was told it was a "1960 Chev". I figured it might have a few useable parts, so after work I drove over to the house where it was sitting. This is what I found there...
I'm not sure of the year but it is definitely a '64-'66 truck. Short bed, custom cab, BBW, deluxe seat, deluxe dash, deluxe wheel, 6-cyl, 3-spd and clearly the subject of a halfway decent amateur restoration at some point. There are no keys as of yet, and the battery is missing so drivetrain status is a complete mystery. Story I got from the seller was his tenant bought it 2+ years ago and drove it home, parked it in the driveway and never touched it again. A little over a year ago the tenant moved out and left it behind. He says he filed all the proper abandoned property paperwork at the time to make it his, but it currently trying to track it down as in addition to selling the rental house, he personally is moving to a new house.
But I don't care about any of that, because I paid all of $500.
Paid a local garage $60 to drag it home this morning. I had to grind the rivet off one of the vent windows to get it open and be able to open the door(after I got a slim-jim stuck in the door). it is currently sitting in my driveway awaiting a very thorough scrubbing and then a look at the drivetrain & brakes. Even if I can't get the paperwork I need to be able to register it, in parts alone this is hands down the best score of my life.

For a 500 parts truck that thing is a steal. Hope you can get it fired up and it goes for you. Updates please.

wow, simply astounding!
I've said it before, it is often worth looking for misspelled or poorly created ads because those are often the people who don't know what they have. Bargains abound.

Theft-proof. Of the small percentage of thieves that could operate a manual, how many could do three on the tree?

inline six, probably the smaller 230, but I haven't had a chance to do more than glance at it as the engine compartment is a spider farm right now.

The paint is actually pretty good, it is just chalky. I'm willing to bet some quality time wit ha tub of compound will have it shining like new.

That's fantastic.
What a truck. I'd even keep it as a 6 cylinder, it's just appropriate.

Did you get a title with it? Even with all the 'paperwork' the seller filed, it might still be re-possessable by the original buyer if he comes after it, maybe? "Ownership" gets messy sometimes. Perhaps somebody with more experience can answer that. Plus, possession is 9-10ths of the law, isn't it?
The last thing you need is the deadbeat randomly driving by, seeing "his" truck, and dragging the cops over with a tow truck. If that happens, please be sure to get video of the whole mess!

From what I understand IF the seller did the paperwork right the prior owner loses all claim to the vehicle by not replying to the sellers attempts to contact him.
I'm not going to drive this thing anywhere until I have all my paperwork ducks in a row showing it is definitely mine.

Holy crap. If the paper work comes through or you can wait for the title claim challenge, that's a steal.

From one 60-66 owner to another, I congratulate you on your excellent taste. I'm also jealous as hell. My '66 is a basket case at the moment and I'd love nothing more than to take it down the road this fall. The front end makes me think 66, but I'm not 100%. BBW is rare. Factory air truck? If so you could turn it around pretty quick. No evident rust at the back of the hood or in the lower fenders, the two worst places for these trucks. Jealous as hell...

Thanks. Not a factory air truck sadly. despite all the other deluxe parts it has the super-basic single-knob heater and no radio. This thing is kinda weirdly optioned.

I would like to add that this is also clearly not a junk truck. ~$500 is a ridonkulously good price for this beauty.

Awesome man, throw a battery in her, feed some gas from a can into the carb, replace the ignition cylinder, and see how she runs. Getting a title shouldn't be too hard, the car is old enough to make the process pretty easy as long as you have a bill of sale.

"Big Back Window". The larger back window on the cab was an option on these truck, notice the different window sizes between my two trucks. My other truck is an absolute base-model, no-options truck.

no need to replace the ignition cylinder. if you take it out and take it to a locksmith, most should be able to make you some keys. I got some for a project I sadly sold before it ran, but two keys for my lock cylinder cost me $30.
