I don't really need a new car, but I think it might be time to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. I've only ever had cheap compact cars, and I feel like I deserve something nicer. To that end, I've found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Thoughts?

What are you driving now? Thats a pretty good dent/scratch on the drivers side. Tough to see from pictures though.

Looks like a good price to me!! I can't believe they are that cheap now.

As someone who's had both cheap compact cars and fancy german sport sedans, it's kind of overrated.
That said, the Mazda 6 is a wonderful car in general, and the manual is icing on the cake.

For that price, I'd say pony up the extra ~2k for a V6 manual. I'm pretty sure that's a 2.3. The V6 is worth every penny.

As far as getting a car, do it. This one? Worth a look.

Its got some body damage. You will want to get it checked out before you move on it. $3,500 is stupid cheap for a car that new that doesn't have serious problems.
Or you can get a cheap used motorcycle and learn to ride. That's what I would do with a spare $3,500 and a perfectly good car already.

The V6 engine on the 6 is terrible in terms of reliability.

Oh come on it doesn't look THAT bad!

Really? What's wrong with them?

It's not THAT bad. I would still get the damage appraised before I even think about buying it. I know if my car had any damage/problems it would bug me every time I thought about the car.
Am I just paranoid?

Maybe a little :p
My car was hit before I bought it, the left rear door doesn't quite close all the way, and the repairs were half-assed. They didn't transfer the original lock cylinder or the VIN label when replacing the driver's door, so I have to lock and unlock from the passenger side. The front bumper was screwed back on, and the grille and fog lights are missing. The front left fender is also still dented.
But then again I only paid $700 for it.

Well that's what you get for $700 I guess. But $3,500 is what you'd pay for a clean title 6, so I would expect it to be undamaged or at least fixed properly.

It's a Duratec from before Ford's turnaround. Oil consumption (maybe it thinks it has to do that to pretend it's a rotary to fit into Mazda's lineup?) timing chain failure (it has two timing chains), also some issues with the PCV system and pre-cats.
And like all transverse V6's, difficult to access the rear bank of cylinders.

True, but then again my car is 10 years older than that one, and 50% more miles!

The 2.3 wasn't available with the GT 18" rims. Unless they, and the lights have been swapped, it's the V6.

I see many flags.
Seller calls it a MX-6.
Looks like its been sitting awhile.
Over 100k, so oil consumption might have set it if it wasn't taken care of oil change-wise. Coils go bad and take out converters if not addressed, and front control arm links wear out and are pricey. Also, those 18" rims were made of butter, so if you see new tires, it might mean potholes ate the old ones, so be wary or bent wheels, and fucked wheels bearings.

Don't do it. 1st gen Mazda 6s are rust buckets, literally. Before I got rid of it a few months ago, my 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 was developing rust in both rear wheel wells, inside one of the door skins, around the windshield header, and on the front strut towers. It had never been in an accident, this was just spontaneously developing rust. They may not all rust this badly, but after my experience I can't recommend these cars to anyone. I'm just glad I got out from under mine with a decent trade-in offer.

A Dodge Neon (with a much nastier dent on the driver's door).

The v6 has cat failure issues, I had a 2004, it was a 4 cyl mind you and I'd love to get it back (I went to a 2014 6) but there are things that tend to wear out, The lcd display dies, A LOT and costs 300$ to fix, the radio is awful, but I believe this one has an aux input where mine didn't so. Gas mileage is pretty awful from the 6 and the "performance" is rather lackluster. With that said, I never had any issues from mine, but I traded it off right at 79k miles. I only had to change the brakes and thermostat, with the exception of losing control of the car and bending two wheels. There does seem to be something up with the bumper on that one though, it doesn't line up flush on the left hand side.
