Yesterday my subaru was feeling a bit under the weather. She had a nasty gargle on startup and she was pretty shaky on the highway. I figured she had a cold from the recent onslaught of winter and the foot of snow lying on the ground.

So I did what any car nut would do treated her nice, kept her warm and let her sleep it off. I think her cold is gone. No ice chunk gargling when I woke her, and her unbalanced wheel seems to have melted because the shakes are gone.

Every time my Subaru does this, it is simply asking for another set of headgaskets, which is quite often I might add.

What year/model/trim and is it modified?

'06 Impreza with the 2.5. I was told there weren't issues with headgaskets on the later models, but it turns out that's not true.

I have an '09 Impreza, I actually replaced the steel wheels with '05 WRX wheels simply because I couldn't unpack the snow from the back side of the steelies and hated the shake the packed-in snow induced. Hopefully this winter will be less shaky.

I need more details! I have a black sedan manual base 09 impreza.

This is my second winter with her, and the first time I have ever had these issues, but totally understand why you would switch rims.

The offset and bolt pattern on the '05 is the same as the '09, so they just bolt right up. Those openings should be enough to get a gloved hand in, I hope.

Here are the specs for the '05 WRX rim, also, this thread is very helpful if you are looking at other stock rims as a replacement for your '09, it has all the specs for every Impreza rim.

Size: 16x6.5"
Offset: +55
Bolt pattern: 5x100
Wheel Weight: 16.5 lbs
OEM-equipped tire size: 205/55R16

I was more or less refering to the car when I asked for more details.

My winter wheels/tyres are steelies that used to be on a similar vintage wrx!

Ahh, it's just a base model '09, with the 4 speed auto, would have preferred the manual, but couldn't find one that the wife and I could agree on. I was set on a white hatch with the 5 speed, but I just couldn't sell her on the hatchback, now every time I have to cram something in the car that really doesn't fit I get to hear, "maybe we should have gotten the hatchback".
