I will be doing a frame up rebuild on my bike from when I was 7 years old. Right now the motor will not start and I can't find neutral so I assume the clutch may be buggered too. I hope parts aren't too much for the old girl. It is a 1982 50R with Automatic Clutch system.

Good project names anyone?

Is it a half step neutral? What's the gearbox layout?

It's the baby version of my bike!

Neutral is all the way down and then half up, I can find it but it takes a few tries. From neutral it is down into first and then up into second, third, fourth if I do remember correctly.

If it's geared like my nighthawk 1st is all down and then neutral is half up from there.

I think it would be the same as my bike its the half up that is causing the issue. If I'm in a quiet place I can listen to it click into neutral sometimes but the main issue is getting it running.

Yeah, that'd be a standard layout then. It's not abnormal to have a difficult neutral, just because it's a lot better than being able to accidentally hit neutral without that being the intent. Exactly like my Kawi's layout, but less a few gears.

Get it running first. The carb is the most likely culprit. Flush the tank. Check the points for gap and wear. Clean or replace as needed. Should be a 12V model. Parts for those are readily available. I bought a new carb for my Passport online for $40?. Bulletproof motors on all those small Honda bikes. Clutch should free up once it is running. If not, there are online manuals available for them. Happy Hondaing.

Ya, either way I will be opening it up and cleaning it out to figure it out.

I wish I still had a motorcycle, even if it was pint sized. Keep us updated on the build!

I'm sorry. I have no idea. Only recently has my bike had anything go wrong.

The tank in the picture is a new(er) one I found on Kijiji for 20 bucks. The old one rusted out so I have had the carb off cleaning the rust out. I broke a plastic spacer with o-rings when I took the carb off so I need to find one of those first of all.

Possibly clutch cylinder on my bike. How long has it sat without running?

Well I rode it when I was 7, then I sold it to a family friend for his kids, and about 5 years ago I asked if he still had it. He said it was sitting in his shed and I could have it. No idea when he used it last. That picture of it is after I spent 2 hours cleaning it up. So it may not have ran in a decade.

My neighbours had two of these when I was young, and they sometimes let me ride. What a blast! I even managed to do a header into a tree once.

Maybe there were different versions, but wasn't this transmission a simple 3-up (neutral at the bottom)?

No this one is one down and three up, neutral is a half click up from the bottom. I wish it was as simple as that.

I guess I hit that tree harder than I remember... :(

Go make that tree into a roll of toilet paper to teach it a lesson.

My friend had an early 80s Z50 and it was 3 up. Good luck getting her going! I wish I could remember all the original Honda parts sites we used.

I found the parts I need on Ebay. Would like to find some tires too. Thinking chrome for the wheels, over the top, ya I know.

I've seen crazier builds. Custom swingarms and the lot. I think some chrome would look great
