A Question on Tires

So when I changed over to my winters I noticed that I've got some damage on the summer tires. Two of the summers have metal shrapnel in them and both near the interior sidewall. I don't think they will be fixable, and I'm down to about 4-5/32nds on them anyway so I'm going to probably just end up replacing the whole set of 4.

What do you guys recommend? They are going to be mounted on a 18x8 wheel. Under $1200 for the set would be a plus. The tires will be going on a gen pew Speed3 (225/40 R18). They will be driven daily and we can git a decent amount of rain, but most of the time the roads are dry. So, thoughts?

Please enjoy the GT porn for your efforts. It's an older shot from a few years back. Not the best lighting, but fun to be around the car.

Hmm, doesn't look like 1010 tires has them in my size. Any particular reason you like them?

I would have said Dunlop Sportmaxx RTs, but 1010 does not have those either.

I'd recommend the Hankook V12 EVO, since they're very good value for money, but as far as I know, asymmetrical tyre patterns are better for FWD cars than directional patterns.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport if you're running them only in summer.

Hankook RS3's are just about the highest performance summer tires you can buy for less than a left nut. I will be getting these or Nitto NT01's for my Speed 6 in the spring.

Costco carries Dunlops and they go on sale from time to time. I could see if they have them in stock. The car came with Dunlops on it and they were pretty good. Traction was great in the dry. Pretty good in the wet.

Costco carries Michelin as well and I know they have a fair number of summer sport tires that run an asymmetrical tread.

I was looking at the Nitto's on 1010 tires, they look amazingly aggressive. The RS-3's look nice as well. Someone else was saying the V tred patterns are not that good for FWD cars though. I hadn't heard that before so it's something I'm going to have to look into.

Yes, just in the summer. I run a full set of winters on the stock wheels and a separate of summers on a lighter alloy wheel.

The Nitto's certainly are, I've never heard that about V tread though. I doubt with the Hankooks 200 treadwear and 100 for the Nittos will matter though! :P
