If you are going on vacation, or your significant is, make sure if you own a vehicle with chipped transponder/immobilizer keys, you leave one at home with the person that will need to drive that vehicle.
Never in my 20 years in this business has this happened to my knowledge, but TWICE today I got the same phone call:
"My husband/wife has the keys to my SUV/Van, and they're out of state and too far away to turn around. How I do I go about getting a key?"
Well, in the case of MOST new vehicles, if you lose ALL the keys.... the vehicle would have to be towed to a dealer for a key to be A. Made and B. Programmed so it will start the car. In some cases you need a minimum of TWO keys. Expensive keys.
We lost the keys to a Lexus once, and not only have to have it towed to Lexus, it also needed a new PCM/BCM along with the new keys. I think the charge came to around $1000 if I recall correctly.
So yeah, people of oppo, spread the word. If you're not going to need those keys, leave them at home.
Unless your baby momma tryna jack yo whip, in that case, mad props to her cuz dats a excuse I ain't heard before.

Hope one of them is not a lawyer. That thinks this is stupid. I got a invite to class action lawsuit against VW america, because a lawyer lost his keys and thought it was unfair for the cost and the effort it took to get new keys made.
I was like idiot way to be a whining bitch and threw the letter out.
Because you lost your shit and felt inconvenienced that the lock smith you visited didn't have the special key cutter or access to the codes to cut them and program them. That was part of the suite too that lock smiths shouldn't have to pay for these special cutters. I hate people that feel that because they messed up and couldnt get what they wanted right away, that they are entitled to something. Who wants any shady locksmith to be able to make keys for cars not me.

Those are the same people that bitched 15 years ago because "cars are too easy to steal! insurance premiums are through the roof! car makers must find a way to make their product impervious to theft!"
