In honor of Brian Silvestro having just watched "Senna" for the first time tonight, I have chosen what I feel to be a fitting counterpart. Alain 'The Professor' Prost — I'm sure some of you are now getting the Senna v. Prof joke from the most recent episode of Tooned — raced for some of the best throughout the years including Mclaren, Ferrari, and Williams and won four world drivers championships. His nickname came from his overwhelming technical know-how when it came to setting up a car and his subsequent exacting and calculated perfection when he got one set up to his liking.

For those that have seen "Senna" but don't have much other experience with this era, you might have a bit of a clouded/negative feeling about Alain but don't let that single view point determine your opinion; Senna wasn't a saint and Alain wasn't a bad guy. Don't make any mistake, Alain was a F1 driver and WDC 4 times over, so it goes without saying that he could be selfish and brash and act wrongly but so does anyone with that talent, mindset, and position. At the end of the day, there are those who call Prost the best driver ever and there is certainly a good argument that folks can make to back that up — hell, at the very least, he is a Frenchman with an OBE. Either way, no matter your personal opinion, there is no doubt that Prost is part of a small group of 3-5 drivers in the 'best ever' conversation and his story is definitely worth knowing.

On that note, getcha popcorn and turn your phones on vibrate. Turn down the lights and turn up the volume! Welcome to the LNO Theater. Enjoy:

Awesome! I actually have no knowledge of F1 outside of Senna the documentary and what I hear on Oppo and the rest of the interwebs, but the movie actually made me really like Prost despite the bias. He is underrated and would be an icon only if he ended up in a coffin; it's a shame he is so overshadowed by the memory of Senna.

I'm not so sure it was even that; I think that's just how charming Senna was off-track, in person. It doesn't help that Prost is fairly unapologetic (and probably rightfully so, I don't bother picking or choosing sides over drama) for the way things were between Senna and himself as drivers. In the end, I'm more of a Senna fan than a Prost fan but it's because, like I said above, there was more of an emotional attachment. Prost was schumacher, he was vettel — cold, unrelenting, brute, technical precision. Certain personal 'deficiencies' (that's not really the right word) notwithstanding, he was a hell of a driver and, as you said, it is certainly sad that most folks who aren't true fans of the sport and its history don't give him his due.

Oh, thanks for the info! I just liked that Prost was sharp and exacting. Senna seemed to be such an idealist and that always annoys me. Senna believed that a supernatural force was keeping him safe, while Prost warned against thinking one was protected from danger due to religiosity. That instance is pretty representative of their characters, I think, and is part of the reason why one is alive today while having been slightly less dominating and endearing to fans.
