Not only it will be important for the US(with the Dart being less successful than Fiat hoped), but it will be sold in the EU, where Fiat brands are starved for new products.
The competition is harsh, so for Marchionne's sake, this car need to be really good.
At least Mazda 6, good.

Should have sold it as an Alfa..(the Dart)

This is the size of a Fusion/Passat, right? For Europe it will need a wagon then, if it doesn't have one it'll lose half its potential sales or more. And even if it does get a wagon it won't be a very important car in Europe for Fiat/Chrysler. Simply because this segment of the market has plummeted, and has shifted to the more luxurious (Audi) and left the scraps to the well established (Peugeot) brands. A Fiat/Chrysler/(Lancia) will have to deal with higher depreciation than those other brands and will have to be exceptionally good to sell in great numbers.
Still, I hope it's great and it will come over. We need increased diversity in this segment.

I don't know if it is just the pictures being from bad angles or my dislike of Chrysler products preventing me from being impartial but that doesn't look good. To my eye it manages to be cluttered and busy with huge expanses of boring flat plastic nothing going on at the same time.

I'm sure that Marchionne has a long presentation, meant to explain you guys why sedans are superior to wagons, and that's the reason he's not offering one, lol.

Tell that to a family and/or dog owners. Anyway, I assume there will be a wagon if it comes to Europe. And diesels as well. A gasoline-only sedan will remain a unicorn on our roads.

Simple design, not many buttons, existing buttons are big enough, if the touchscreen system won't be crappy, the interior will be pretty good.

Is it just me, or is there way too much Dart interior shapes here? The basic design is too similar to me. Platform-mate or not, it's too similar. I am all for platform sharing, however, I think this is too much.

It will obviously come, as Chrysler and Lancia are now one brand and every new product will be a global one, and because Fiat's EU arm needs new products badly, after all those Alfa delays. It will fill the bread and butter mid size car segment, that's too low to reach for Maserati, and too far for Fiat's 500 based fleet. At least the Italian police and other government agencies will buy it, to replace the aging Alfas, and some of the German cars they had to buy because of the lack of Italian mid sizers.

Will be fun to watch the Chrysler/Lancia pair, taking on Buick/Opel, on global markets.

It's not a Chrysler. If it doesn't have an analog clock above the radio, then It's not a Chrysler. Analog clocks = class, and as we all know the Chrysler name is synonymous with class.
