The 2013 Jeep Patriot is one of those vehicles that is so terrible, so underwhelming that it bonds people over mutual hatred. It is so appalling that it is bound to become a collectible. At $15,995, it has the lowest starting price of any crossover in America, and the lowest expectations. The base trim, which dates circa 1970, has neither air-conditioning nor power windows. Power is disappointing and fuel economy even more so. Its sole defense is the availability of two off-road packages, albeit at the expense of comfort, handling, efficiency and general sanity.

Things like "2013" and "Jeep Patriot" should not be in the same sentence.

Any way you option a patriot its still crap. I have a buddy with an 08 patriot limited with every option on it, with about 70k miles, he has the lifetime waranty..... Lets just say that chrysler is continuing to loose money on that thing. It has been in the shop more than just a few times. The plastic on the thing is garbage and will break, it squeaks like a mouse and the NHV of the 2.4L is atrocious. Shake the whole car like a solidly mounted big block. It has a wonky cvt which is known for high failure rates, it also eats suspension parts at the rate of 5-7k miles for bushings, and 15k for shocks. It feels underpowered and the 4wd system (he has the offroad package) is a joke, add to it that he keeps loosing belley pan bolts. This thing has never been off road. I can however say no signs of rust yet. Also it somehow turns 5 quarts of penzoil platinum to dark smelly charcoal in 5k or so. Worst vehicle ever.

I work in fleet service for a major utility and one of the divisions employs specially outfitted patriots to collect data only. So they basically just drive around on the streets, that is literally all they do.....I have two words to describe them from a service point of view....
"Ball Joints" ad least once a week one of them needs both replaced along with either a headlight or some other stupid part. We have Ford escapes with close to 200k on them that supervisors would prefer to drive over any of the patriots.....

I think they look the best out of all compact SUV's and I am slightly intrigued by the 2.0 liter with the stick shift. I would avoid the 2.4 with CVT at all costs. It's appealing in that sense, that the cheapest power train is actually the most desirable. And I'm fine with eschewing all options.
The interior has improved a lot over the horrendous initial offering.
