Pastor Maldonado's PDVSA millions, and Max Chilton's lucrative Aon backing, appear to have locked the doors to Lotus and even Force India for the highly rated German.

"We are up against 150 million (euros)," Hulkenberg's manager Werner Heinz told Bild newspaper.

Mercedes' Niki Lauda told Bild: "It is ridiculous that someone like Hulkenberg has to fight for a cockpit."

World champion Sebastian Vettel agreed: "Nico has absolutely earned his place in Formula One."

It makes my blood boil seeing such a driver struggling for a seat against a driver like Maldonado, as his manager says, its fighting the seat against money. If Pastor's money beats him to Lotus, I hope Mclaren gets rid of Perez and hire Hulkenberg. btw hulkenberg needs to get rid of that silly manager.

I want to see the best drivers when I watch F1.

Unfortunately, those days have passed.

Don't forget Niki Lauda and James Hunt more or less paid their way in to formula 1 as well. At least if the movie RUSH is to be believed. I'm pretty sure it is accurate for Lauda.

Also don't forget Maldonado has actually won a race. For a team that has struggled for performance to boot.

Well Nikki isnt talking about himself, he is talking about Nico, and he's off limits, its pretty admirable what he did, to get in the race car, after some weeks he had been in a fireball.

Still , he has more negative things to his account than the good ones, he was kind of a Grosjean before Grosjean became Crashjean.

Éric Boullier has said a few times that he wants Hulkenberg, and he has also stated that the money they bring in doesn't matter, just the talent, so that's a positive. But of course I'm not sure who makes the final decision, and I could be somebody who does care only about the money. Honestly I've never seen anything about Maldonado's driving that impressed me. He's just kind of . . . there. And that's it.

true, and on the last races Hulkenberg is the one who has made them more exiting to watch specially on Korea

Yeah I loved how frustrated Hamilton was getting in Korea, that was an instant classic.

ah yes that battle was amazing, because lewis was putting more pressure on Nico than Alonso could on his Ferrari

"It is ridiculous that someone like Hulkenberg has to fight for a cockpit, but completely understandable given how the top teams all enjoy shooting down budget caps to maintain their control on the sport and force lesser teams to have to search for income any way possible."

There, fixed it for ya Nikki.

but surely Grosjean has had a good enough season this year to shake his iffy rep.

Yeah, I've commented against such B.S. ever time, specially with pilots that haven't proved themselves. I can't blame Pastor though, because if I where in his position I'd do the same thing.

Anyways, I hope it satisfies you to know that "the Hulk" has pretty much been guaranteed a seat at Lotus now that their Quantum financial package has finally come through. I do wonder how long "Monseiur Crashy" has since Daniil Kvyat will be in F1, and I'm sure those Quantum Investors (which are Russian) can't wait to exploit his image.
