I sold my trusty DD, a 2007 VW GTI, yesterday (to a KIA dealership!? but that's a story for later), which means I have to either keep my fingers crossed all winter long as I mozie my vintage Bimmer to work and back, or throw some cash at something fun on Craigslist. The latter being the most likely scenario as I'm looking to keep my fairly mint 325is Coupe in tact. This means not taking it on daily post-workday tears through evening big city traffic. So here's what I've come up with so far:

Kinja'd!!!

14k 4.8is. Similar price to the first maintenance bill I'm sure. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Overpriced but damn nice 330i for 13k. Automagic box may just be acceptable. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

6k E36 M3 bargain (scary good price) !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Completely badass '73 280C for 4.5k! Colour coordinated everything. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Even better A-Team GMC G Series for 3.5k. I've never even been in one of these, I'd be tempted to buy one just because of the mystique. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

1969 Chevelle in decent shape for 8.5k?! Give her a factory correct respray and she's worth double. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Styling in a '63 Galaxie Vert. I'd have to grow a beard and go throwback hipster. That or pick up a copy of Still D.R.E. on cassette. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

2k for a sidestep '81 F150? John Player F1 pinstripes and everything? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

For 4k I'll take a hopped up Bronco all day everyday. No replacement for displacement. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

At this point I know what you're thinking...

Kinja'd!!!

So that went from semi nice to pieces of junk quickly, but what can I say, I like all cars. So to redeem myself, I'll just get the local E30 M3 for sale.

Kinja'd!!!

Unfortunately the dealership (which is a few hours away from me and across the border) hasn't been returning calls or emails. Priced at 24k, I'm sure their inbox is quite full.

Two other cars I'm considering that I haven't included are a 6-speed 135iM Coupe and an 2006 997 (S) Coupe. However those have some (even) further depreciating to do before I'd pick one up. There was also a 2003 A4 Avant 3.2 with a stick for sale nearby but it has just sold. Too bad so sad. So in the meantime, what do you suggest OPPO? Anything catch your fancy up there?

so you don't need a truck it sounds like (for load or terrain) so don't get one. Enjoy a nice sporty something instead and save some gas for those of us in the low teens or worse mileage camp.

That X5 4.8is is a rare bird - 355hp from an Alpina-tuned BMW motor and it was the third fastest SUV you could buy (no idea what #1 or #2 were).

E30 M3! E30 M3!

But ehhh, that price seems a little high considering the mileage but I don't know what they go for in Canada.

I love E36 M3s but that price seems awfully reasonable. It's been modded and been in an accident so I would have it very well checked out by a mechanic you trust before I'd go for it. I like the Chevelle and I like the F150 and Bronco. Keep in mind that the bronco is on propane so I don't know what that is like living with day to day. The F150 would be fun cheap transportation that you could hoon offroad without giving a shit about.

Check out XJ Cherokees too, I bought my first a few months ago and it might be the best car I've ever owned.

Let's be E36 buddies!

Smarter choice would be the 135i. You don't want the automagic 330i.

Perhaps the 55AMG ML was quicker. What other SUV was out there at the time that could match those two? Perhaps some kind of Shelby or SRT American SUV?

Haha I'm tempted! And I can imagine that automagic is no fun at all, you're right. And here here on the 135i! I drove one for a year in 2011. Lovely, incredible, perfect cars.

Yup, the 135i feels to me like the E36, but... new. If that makes sense.

Hmm. Actually yeah the ML55 AMG, SRT8 Grand Cherokee (but that was '05), G55 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo were probably it's competition at the time.

The only one that caught my attention was the 69 Chevelle... That is a car I wouldn't mind starting a restomod project on. So... yeah, if the wife would approve a second project at this time, I would be racing you up to look at it.

I'm liking that Merc. I wonder if those cars are money sinks as far as maintenance is concerned? Somebody working across our office's suite (another company) owns a diesel merc from that generation (can't remember the actual model, sorry).

If you own this vehicle you are either a child abductor or serial killer. Stay away from this Molest-o-van 5000 please.

135 would be a hoot for sure, but you'll find yourself wanting an LSD before too long. An excellent case can be made for the E36 M3, which looks like the owner really cares about it. You didn't say what year 135, but if it has an N54 I wouldnt buy it without at least a little bit of warranty left so you can make sure everything is up to snuff before it's on your dime. I had an N54 and it was a royal bitch (Edit: when it worked as it was supposed to it was effin magical).

I personally would get the 330i. Although I would wait for a manual. The 135 is known for some problems. (See: N54 problems) The E36 is also quite nice, although as you know I'm bias.

All valid points. I think the E36 may be worth checking out. Same goes for the E30.
