but it has no brakes (no pressure pedal sinks to the floor, seller claims that if you bleed it it lasts two weeks, guessing master cylinder is blown), should I? It is from the 80's but the rest we can leave to surprise...

Worst case, if you can't do anything with it, could you part it out and get your money back?

The saying goes that everybody pays the same for a car. The first owner buys it and drives it 'til it gets old and the next owner buys it cheaper and pays the difference in repairs.

Haha.

Um, YES .
If it's not something ridiculously rare (and I can't think of a 1980s German coupe that fits that description that could go for that much except maybe my beloved old Audi Coupe GT and even that is a known quantity that used mostly off-the-shelf parts) than getting anything you need is not a problem.
Get it, fix it, drive it, love it. Manual transmission, right?

Nope, but youre not completely cold on the Hot-to cold scale.

Yeah it comes with two sets of wheels with both almost new tires so I think I could probably recoup my money if it is indeed a heap... hmmm.

That's true, but at 500 dollars I don't really care too much it's condition. I still have a super reliable daily that isn't going anywhere soon, I just want a messed up project car to have some fun with. :P

Seem pretty low risk then, I say do it.

By all means, go have fun. Just make sure that credit card has a lot of space on it.

Will you say "yes" or "no" if I ask if it is a VW?
![]() 10/31/2013 at 22:34 |

Depends where it sits in the Bavarian heirachy.
If its an old S class you'll spend all of your money on parts.
If its an old 3 series you'll never find all of the faults.
If its an old Audi, you might have found a bargain.
Just remember, the guy told you about one fault but probably omitted another 3 things that he knows about. Plus the 10 he doesn't know of.

It's closer to an audi than it is than an S-class. :P

It is not quite a VW.
