Just to clarify, the person who posted this was referring to the redline on their tachometer. They are in their late 30s with (presumably) a number of years of driving experience and did not know what the red area at the end of the rev range was for. Incredible.

One thing I've learned is that some people just don't care about "how stuff works", as long as said stuff does work. They feel they need not know this surplus ballast ... I mean, you don't want the brain to be full one day, AMIRITE?!

I don't think any of my friends are on Jalop. Of the few people I know that are automotive enthusiasts, they are all on the JDM and Vdub forums. I also don't think they can read very well, which is why they are on the JDM and Vdub forums, and also hanging out at a Tim Hortons parking lot every other Thursday night with other people who can't read.
I try to talk cars with one guy (who is a mechanic) and shit just seems to go so far over his head I should've got flight clearance.

But hey, their debadged stanced-tucked-cambered Golfs with roof racks make up for it.

Why is it close to the centre though? The way I've seen the redline region marked is the numbers and markings are usually in red. Is this how mustangs are? Red all the things?

That's where I think most of the confusion came from. I would think most people would have still been able to properly infer the red marker's meaning, but the placement is questionable.
