Yes, it ruins the handling. Yes, there are a lot of idiots with terrible-looking cars and legions of me-too customizers.

But it's still a group of people who put love and pride into their cars. You may not think they look good. Many people don't.

But that's not a good reason to hate a group.

It reminds me of something I read on a Muscle Car forum in the midst of a "lol imports are teh gay" discussion; "You know, the hot rod guys look at us the same way we look at kids in civics. We're all car people, even if we don't understand each other all the time."

As to the "ruining good cars" argument, it's no more ruining a car than welding a cage for racing.

Stance is fine, it is just that there are a LOT of bandwagoners that don't really care about cars, and are just there to look cool. I HATE THEM SO MUCH!

Agreed 100%

I'm a racer at heart and a lot of the stanced cars used to bug me because they're extreme to the point of not really working. However, after getting to know a lot of the local car people, mostly through our local Cars & Coffee group, I've completely gotten over it. I wouldn't do it to my car, but I've got several really good friends who are into it and I have tons of respect for them so if that's what they like to do, I'm all for it!

I think that's what a lot of it comes down to, we don't understand it until we get to know the people behind it and then it makes a little more sense, or at least gets harder to hate on.

Just a bunch of guys that like to look cool in their car, the same as the people who stick extra chrome "vents" on their fenders. It's not particularly practical, but lots of other mods aren't; like the brodozer trend of lifting pickups. It hurts towing capacity and MPG, but damn does it look cool.

I like well fitted wheels, and have definitely been lusting after a new set myself; but stance isn't practical for a DD unless if you opt for a very expensive airbag setup. I already cringe every time I scrape, and my car isn't even lowered.

As with anything that people do, some are good, and most are bad.

But when they are good, they really are good.

I love stance, looks good.

What I don't like is when people with no money stance their car, because shit gets ghetto fast. If you're gonna lay frame do it safely. Prime example: http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/showthr…

Otherwise I love a good frame scrapin' big body.

There are some beautiful older German cars that just look right when given the treatment. I have no idea what they're like to drive, but they sure photograph well.

Nothing to excess.

I don't like stance in how they look but I like the idea. I mean, at the end of the day we're just all car people, we just demonstrate it in different ways. Stance people lower their cars, some people put huge body kits and spoilers onto their Civics, we want a station wagon with a manual, diesel and AWD. At the end of the day we're all the same people.

Except bro truckers. NO. They can stay shunned.

putting 225 tires on a 9" rim, then throwing the camber so far off that you are driving on the edge of the sidewall, is unsafe no matter how they actually lowered the car. Most tire shops won't even put such a small tire on a wide wheel due to it being a liability issue...

the only thing stance does is

A. Make you look like a dbag

B. Tell the world "I can't build a car that performs, so I'll build on thats illest"

Yes, stance = / = good

I saw this gem at a VW dealer

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

(Lowered Standards - that should be the motto behind this entire car)

Kinja'd!!!0

Jesus that is a terrible fender roll job. Good lord.

You're also assuming they WANTED to build a car that "performs." Like that's the only reason anybody should ever own a car. Terribly narrow-minded.

And yeah, that can't be good for the tires, but, statistically, do you think they're worse than the legions of soccer moms driving with underinflated tires on their Suburbans?

poor maintenance isn't in the same category as modification negligence, its not a trend to under inflate tires. At least not yet, who knows in 5 years that could be the next big thing.

Its like putting 8" lift blocks on a leaf sprung axle. Sure it works, but holy shit does it make you look like an idiot for doing it.

are you saying lift blocks are also cool? You know, the ones that are known to cause massive axle wrap and in extreme cases, can come flying out of a rear axle if it doesn't have a centering pin due to said axle wrap?

People in the offroad world laugh at those who use lift blocks because its poser shit

Kinja'd!!! TheOnelectronic > offroadkarter

Kinja'd!!!0

I'm not sure how you can be smart and safe about putting undersized tires on wide rims and throwing the camber at like -5 so the car rides on the edge of the tread and sidewall. I had my camber at -3 for a while after I lowered the car because I couldn't get the alignment closer without new camber bolts and I went through a set of front tires in maybe 5000 miles, I can't imagine the tire life these people get having everything so out of whack.

Kinja'd!!! TheOnelectronic > offroadkarter
10/31/2013 at 02:10

Kinja'd!!!0

It does also bear mentioning that extreme stretched tires and max camber aren't required for "stanced" cars.

I won't argue that there are a huge number of morons in the "Stance" world. But there are also some really well-made cars out there too.

I like stanced cars. I think done right it CAN be a really good look. That being said, sretched tires and extreme camber DO look dumb and is most certainly unsafe. Although the same argument could be made for 800+hp street cars, jeeps with 6" lifts, 35" tires and no sway bars, rat rods, anything with a chopped roof, anyone with $500 coilovers, bro trucks, etc. Stance isn't the only sub-culture in the car world that could be chastised for unsafe modifications. From an opinion standpoint I think everyone should be able to like or hate whatever they want. To be fair though, it's possible to stance a car without stretching wheels and using camber kits and rolling fenders. Springs and wheel spacers can get a great look.
