Brackets have been welded on, calipers assembled, and the whole thing is painted.

For those just tuning in, I am at Griggs Racing installing a GR350 rear suspension, including a torque arm and Watts link. I sourced a 3.08-geared 8.8 from a 1998 Mustang GT, sans decent rotors and any sort of caliper. Calipers were sourced used from an SN-95 at the local Pick-n-Pull.

All of the brackets had to come off. Two were for the quad shocks, which are useless. The control arm brackets had to go as well (shown here), since the mounting points aren't low enough, and there's some new brackets I wanted to try.

Anywho, back to progress!

Installing the Hawk HP Plus pads into Sn-95 Mustang calipers is a royal pain in the ass because of those anti-squeal clips. The rotor gap isn't wide enough to just slide it down with the clips in place, so you have to snap them on as you're putting the pads in. I think when these pads wear out, I'm just getting a new set of more serviceable calipers. (EDIT: I cannot stress enough how much I loathe these calipers and their stupid springs and clips. It should not take half an hour to install pads. No, that's not removing the caliper, removing the pads, installing new pads, and re-installing the caliper. That's with the caliper out, no old pads, JUST installing new pads. I can't wait to do the fronts, which amount to removing a cover, sliding old out, sliding new in. BAM! Done.)

The new brackets welded on. 1/2" plate with 5 control arm positions for anti-squat control, and an integrated coil-over mount. I might tune it for a little less bite, just because burnouts are fun. They don't feel much heavier than the stock brackets were.

Another look at the bracket, post-paint.

Other details: The 8.8 uses the axle as a bearing race for the outboard bearings. Saves a few cents per axle, I guess. When we pulled the axles, I noticed a slight impression or groove or something. It was clear that the bearings were wearing into the surface, and once past the heat treated zone, the axle will wear very quickly and fail. So, figured now was as good of a time as any to replace the axles, bearings, and seals. When I have more money, I'll put on 9" housing ends and camber it. That will take care of all future issues.
