BROWNMIATADIESELWAGON brought us a great question: "What is the most Jalop new car you can buy?"
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about how we hear the rally calls of wagon fans, how Miata is the answer for everything and that we need to save the manual. These may not be majority views (we see wagon hate and this is reinforced by abysmal offerings/sales) but they certainly are the loudest ones.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
But what if we put it to the majority? What if we take the pulse of Jalopnik as a whole? What vehicle would we end up with?
I'm not talking about a mythical manual V8 turbo diesel Miata wagon convertible (see?) but a legitimate new car.
So what we need is a FP post each day with a poll. I would say Oppo do it but perhaps a FP posting would gather greater interest, views and participation.
Start off with body style, because we know the wagon vs miata crowds are loud but what is the group's preference, and by how much? Wagon, hatch, coupe, cabrio, truck, whatever. I want to see a percentage breakdown of what everyone would choose if they were only given the choice of one style vehicle.
Next day, engine. 4? 6? 8? 10? 12? diesel? turbo? etc. Some people prefer smaller tuned Asian engines while others prefer to go full 'MURICA. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

(orly?)
Next day, transmission. I would guess manual ,of course, but with the rise of new tech who knows what people would prefer.
Next day, manufacturer. Everyone has a bias. I love Fords...grew up in a wagon pretending to have shoot outs with cars behind us as we drove around, learned to drive on one and just bought one. Where do our biases lean?
Next day, models. Based upon the previous day's answers we will get down to specifics.
Next day, decade. Because some decades are better than others. Raph pointed out that BMW has been doing the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and within that period of time, some decades have gained preference over others (see today).
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Finally, color. The part that every car salesman thinks is most important (and to the customers they deal with probably 90% of the time it is).
By the end of the process we will have a Jalopnik "mascot" car, so to speak. It will represent the majority because it was voted on by the majority.
We may think we know what to expect, or we may actually know what to expect. But during the process we will find out EXACTLY to what extend the community likes wagons. We will find out where the preferences are for those who do not speak up as much (or at all). The breakdown we get from this may help tailor future posts because the audience is that much better known.
And, as preferences evolve over time due to experience, we can do it again next year or the year after to find out exactly how (if at all) we have progressed.
So get at it editors! Let's see what this community is made of.

Edit: Wow, tried to point to the derpy long wheelbase pickup truck, not the hatch.
Also, this sounds kind of fun. Not sure we'd end up with a particular car, but whatever. Polls are fun.

Your suggestion is not jalop enough. It needs more E30 and inline 6. The correct answer is *takes a deep breath* Turbodieselinline6bmwmiatawagobackE30manual.

6 Speed Manual 325d Touring, estoril blue, sport line.
You have to do a European delivery if you want one in the US, but that's easy enough to manage through BMW, they come in to my dealership all the time.

Honestly, I have no idea what's up with that image. I just found it funny and it was one of the few representing various car body styles that didn't have a watermark over it.
