The 9-2x is based on the WRX STi but costs as much as a base model WRX is going for now.
Which is cool now because of the crazy STi prices.

The 9-2x was based on the base model WRX wagon, not the STi

There is the 9-2x linear and aero. Aero is the badge engineered wrx sti

The 9-2X actually had bits from the WRX too (suspension and brakes I believe), front and rear fascia changes, better interior. Plus the fancy-ass Saab headrests.
I can't remember what all else exactly was different, they were the better car of the two to buy though. I almost bought one back in 05, or 06.

remove "sti" and you're right. The 9-x aero was not sti based. just plain ol wrx (no DCCD, no 6 speed, etc)

That's not what wikipedia says. That's also not what this dealer here is selling . It looks like the Aero's topped out at 230. I'm under the impression that STis make considerably more than that?

I guess your right. I saw it as a wrx with sti upgrades, so I just assumed it had the full sti upgrade.
