Al Oppenheiser, Chief Design Engineer for the Camaro, is claiming they just did it again, the time? 7:31.9. 7 minutes, 31 seconds, 9 fake seconds!
If you recall, the first lap time released (video evidence) was done partially during a light rain. He is claiming they just did it in the dry 6 seconds faster. Putting down an even more impressive, and even more super car beating lap.
No actual proof via video though. I'm sure they'll run it again with the cameras rolling.
That LS7 deserves it's own day.

That's neat, now WHERE IS MY SS? B<

They are loosing significant time with the aero, might as well be a city bus.

How much time do you actually think is lost though? I can't imagine the Z/28 aero being much worse than that of the Grand AM cars.

losses on the strait, gains in the corners. Not a ring expert and can't speak to which is best for good times, but I'd much rather have grip than top speed.

Didn't the Viper ACR have around 1500# of downforce?

This just in, the 5th gen camaro continues to get faster, but it still can't outrun ugly. Engineers are baffled, but vow to look into this dilemma.

1000 hp should be enough to help it outrun ugly. Waiting for the engineering analysis to come back though, of course.

Upon further analysis, further analysis is needed
but the results aren't looking good

I have ran there in a Ring rental VW MKV GTI that topped 135mph in Schwedenkreuz (which is one of the faster sections you can drive flat out during touristenfahrten since they put the booth on the middle of the long straight) and even with 225 tires and close to 230 HP going thru the front wheels it never felt like it needed more grip even on the hairpins and bumpy sections, but it certainly felt overwhelmed on the fast sections where the drag was too much for the 2.0T.
If what GM claims is true and they have fine tuned the suspension and use some good rubber I would opt out the aero package in favor for more top speed unless it's a particularly busy day in which you have to take horrifying bad lines in order to pass the traffic or let the big guys in the R8 GTs pass

Yep, it's ugly alright... I kind of liked it before seeing it in person, then I realized just how screwed up the proportions are. The Z/28 pictured above doesn't look too bad, but I'm left to wonder how much worse the wider skirts and bumpers make it look in real life.

ill still take it over the bland looking mustang, and the super-bloated challenger

Viper ACR was for all intents purposes a race car that was barely made road legal just so it could go destroy tracks and get records. Even with the spool valve suspension I'd bet the Z/28 is a pretty ok daily driver, not as good as the ZL1, but still not bad.

What makes you think it has bad aero performance? I'm sure it has drag comparable to any other coupe on the market.

Any time an American car manufacturer makes air conditioning an option on a modern car, it's generally not because the car is supposed to be luxurious or comfortable. js
