As some of you may know, tomorrow marks 50 years to the day that a little automotive outfit built upon the foundation of spite opened its doors. I'm mostly posting this to get, at the very least a post of recognition on the front page, at most an QOTD on the subject of Lamborghini. Maybe something along the lines of: "What's the most memorable moment in Lamborghini history?" or some sort.
I love Lamborghini. The first memorable moment was a poster on a friends wall of a brilliant white Countach LP400 set against the Golden Gate Bridge and from that moment I was hooked. I fell in love when I heard the origin. Ferruccio Lamborghini, mechanic turned tractor manufacturer found his Ferrari lacking. When he met with Il Commendatore, he took issue with the quality of the cars and was rebuffed by Ferrari. Incensed, he vowed to create a car that would rival Ferrari and 50 years later his vow has been realized.
It was a story to teach you never to take shit from anyone, and I loved it. While I've yet to actually be in a moving Lamborghini, I've been in a few Lamborghini dealerships (Always staffed by, just the kindest and understanding people out there who always see you as a potential customer. Thanks Lamborghini Toronto and London!) and met (at the time) the man in charge of North American distribution. He took me behind the stage at the 2009 Toronto International Autoshow:
(The sweater is how I managed to strike up the conversation!)
I'm a huge fan of Lamborghini and I would hate for the exact anniversary to go by without at least a shout-out. I know they pumped out the Egoista earlier this year, but Lamborghini didn't open their doors earlier in the summer, they unveiled the Lamborghini 350GTV at the Turin Motorshow on October 30th, 1963.
So, thank you for sticking with me this far. Raph, Torch, Patrick, Matt, Travis, Michael and whoever else, maybe join me in marking this moment in automotive history maybe?
Thanks!

Memorable moment in Lambo history? While not the first car, without this car there would be no Lamborghini today.

This car used to belong to a family friend when I was a kid. I remember getting a pretty good ride. It had a tv, GPS, crazy alarms, phone and was decked out to go! I still have the poster!

And you got to ride in that thing. Wow. Living out what I could only dream about. You're a lucky guy. How did it sound?

I was very lucky to be around a lot of very amazing cars growing up - now most of these things are so ridiculously expensive that a hobby has evolved into an uber wealthy competition.
Most of my experience is in Ferrari so Lamborghini always was that much more special. They are raw and loud to the Ferrari refined. So much of the experience was sitting in the car, being in the cockpit and seeing the mass of technology wedged into his dash - all the components i mentioned above were tightly fitted in the dash! I always considered the dash to be surprisingly plain and boring but this one was different. The steep rake of the front windshield and the side windows slanting to nearly above my head created this a modern felling green house. Getting in and out of the doors felt like a gateway to a different world. It had two alarms - one a sensitive touch alarm that was advanced for its time and the other was a motion sensor if anybody were to reach their hands through the small windows. One of my favorite parts about the car was the license plate, which added to the mistique: "MIRAGE".
The guy who owned this car was really cool, an Italian gent named Emilio. He was dating a very good family friend for a few years and she drove a 308GT4 - I thought it was a match made in heaven.
