I picked up a cheapie dual action polisher from HF. Supposedly a stronger motor than the Porter Cable version. Washed the truck/SUV thingie and decided to hit a couple of spots with a very mild swirl and haze remover followed up with a polish to see any difference. I hit 2 panels really quick.

Best those panels have looked since the vehicle left the dealer lot. I'll have to use the cutting compound on a few spots, but the $55 I spent on this thing plus the extra shelled out for the one year warranty give a good first impression.

As long as this thing holds up I'll be satisfied.

Too bad harbor freight extended warranties don't come with a gas card to cover all the trips there and back :P

Last time I was at harbor freight, I watched someone run out the door with a drill, jump in the passenger seat of a car and speed off. I was just leaving so I followed them, took their picture and gave the info to the store. But all the way I was thinking, what the hell is going on here that someone has do/risk all that to steal a $15.99 on sale POS drill?

Electric tool from Harbor Freight... you are a brave man. Last time I did that it required a fire extinguisher.

The problem with HF is not so much the motor but the gears inside. They are made of the cheapest metal I have ever seen. Took an angle grinder apart that had stopped working. The gears were worn beyond belief.

I work right near the store so it's a non-issue. My Craftsman rotary sander/polisher died last year (had it since the early '90's) and I'd been hesitant to buy anything else. The Mustang gets a hand treatment and doesn't see the elements as it is garaged and more of a luxury than a necessity. The Focus and the Dodge on the other hand..... They're overdue for some attention and hand waxing out little things is possible yet very time consuming. If this thing makes it until next summer before I swap it then I'll be happy. So far, so good though. Fingers crossed.

And you are right. Potentially getting arrested, having a record and spending a good chunk of money in attorney fees are certainly not worth it; ESPECIALLY for a $15 tool.

I picked one of these up as well, only used it once but it worked fine. I usually look at the reviews on this type of item from HF before purchasing and a lot of people seemed to like it as much or more then the PC DA polisher, so I went for it. I can buy two for the price of the PC, so why not?

The one I had blow up was a soldering iron... SOB melted it's plastic housing, set it's self on fire in my hand... which melted the switch to a permanent on position. I had to unplug the thing and put it out. Nothing but a melted hunk of plastic left.

I also don't buy anything hydraulic from there anymore. Too many jacks and stuff that just explode or completely loose pressure. Not the way I want to have my car come down off stands.

The rule to go buy when shopping at Harbor Freight: Don't buy anything that is going to put your life in danger or that you are going to use more than once(or sparingly at best).

I am saying that there is a reason that the welder is 1/2 the price of a similar unit from elsewhere.
