This was based on a distant memory of his uncle drifting with him while he was little. My guess is they hydroplaned and his memory changed over time.

Most of my family friends come from Brazil, so they know a thing or two about cars. But my grandmother obsesses over engine size and manual transmissions, and cares for nothing else.

Something along the lines of "I bought the 1.6 engine instead of the 1.3, because it's quicker, and I don't care on how many cylinders or whachumacallits that damn thing has!"

But.. a friend of mine argues with me constantly about the specs of cars. He calls the Volt a "one gas valved electric car", and claims it was the first commercially available electric car in Canada. he's always in denial, and won't admit his mistakes.

My uncle thinks it's funny to ask stupid performance-related questions about my car whenever I go over to his house to borrow tools to fix it. Shit like "bet that SVT suspension's working reeeaaal hard while the car's up in the air" or "good thing Cosworth worked on the engine, anyone else might have done it right" "How's that loudmouth exhaust working out for-oh wait, we never hear it because you can't fix a car while it's on." as a high school sophomore, I find this to be insulting, but sadly true :P
A kid in one of my classes who's a freshman is the only person who I can have a solid, non totally one side car conversation with, and the only reason that happens is because his dad is a manager at a VW dealership in my area (he sold my mom her jetta and my dad his GTi. going back there next summer to trade in the jetta, and pick up a car for me, and a new car for mom)
The difference is, in my school, audis are god, and 1/3 teen girls drive a 3 series :P

Actually, in my English/history class, I sit next to a girl whose dream car is a 1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, in cherry red, with a white interior/soft top. Also she mentioned she'd have it with a 396, attached to a Tremec 5speed transmission.
These are her words, not mine! I was seriously surprised when she listed that off, and it gave me hope, that someday, everybody will love cars :D !

This isn't really funny, but when I was dating my wife, she casually mentioned that her 1977 Pinto had a red light on in the dashboard and that it had been on for a couple days.

The car was almost 4 quarts low on oil.

I filled it up and added a couple cans of STP oil treatment and she sold it shortly thereafter.

This may piss off the Oppo faithful, but I've started referring to my car as a navy blue sedan. It tells you nothing relevant (to us) about the car, but it seems to satisfy the majority of women who ask. I learned my lesson when a woman described her new car with the color and the location of some of the chrome trim.

Current girl loves Miata's, she likes old cars, and doesn't care if I'm looking at cars in person, online, wherever.

The "Bro" part is definitely true around here. Kids don't know what kind of BMW they see, they see a Lambo or a Ferrari or some high end car and ooohhh and ahhh over it. But if you look around there are cars so unsuspecting that they will give them a run for their money.

One guy yesterday at my work was bragging about his Volvo, it was a nicely done R model, 380 hp at the crank, so not too bad but AWD so it loses a lot in powertrain drag. I told him what I put down at the wheels and he was like "Oh so that's your Mustang outside" When it was actually my bosses stroked 327. I then told him I drive the Cobalt and he was like what in the fuck.

So my tweaker cousin sees my 911 and starts going on about how fast his friend's LS-swapped Civic is. Only knowing about B, D, and F series motors, my mind immediately goes to an actual Chevy LSx swap. Is that a thing? Can that possibly fit? What year? Can the chassis even handle that?
