I have tried seemingly countless holders for my devices over the years starting with my Palm LifeDrive (remember those?) to my current iPhone 5. I read about the OSOMount U-GRIP EX in EVO Magazine and it looked like it had significant promise. My biggest complaint with phone/tablet holders is that they often hold the device so it breaks the plane of the dashboard thusly (in this case it's a bud vase on a VW Beetle):
Some people don't mind this, but I just hate how it looks. I especially despise anything being affixed to the windshield and it's not legal in some jurisdictions.
The good people at OSOMount have addressed these concerns with the U-GRIP EX. It has an arm that extends down and is flexible in how it is configured. Oh, and you can have it configured with a small part that will break the plane of the dashboard. Where I might use this, would be for a dash cam.
The shape of the holder is elegant and gracefully holds your device that isn't quite beautiful, but it's at least not clunky and ugly. The other key design feature is the grip itself. It is nicely sprung and both releases and grips your device solidly. If the spring ever goes, that'll mark the end of this holder. Is it an Achilles' heel? Who knows.
The holder works with any case, which in the past was often an issue.
How does the holder actually stay affixed to your dash board? It has a gooey substance on the suction cup, which itself has a lever to suction itself to the surface. In the case of my E46, it has a grainy, medium soft surface and the suction device, well sucks - to the car. Victory! It can be rinsed with water and reused over and over again.
My overall assessment? Well worth the $29.99. If it only lasts a few years, I'll be more than satisfied. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I picked this up at Walmart for $11 and it's been working out pretty well for the past few months. Believe it or not, sometimes the Made for TV crap actually works, haha. If nothing else, it was at least worth the price of admission.

I had a Scosche like that, but sometimes my phone would go flying off, hence the desire for something that holds the phone.

Scosche products SUCK. I literally had one break on me in the parking lot minutes after buying it. Good thing I kept the receipt.
The clingo/grip-n-go is actually really effective. It sticks hard enough that sometimes I'm afraid the backing will come off the phone, haha. As for phone holders, none of them work well with my phone, due to the placement on the side edges of the phone for the power and volume buttons.

I'm gonna say that's an e46. Second guess: Post 2000 e39.

2000 E46 323i. Good guess. It's been a great car.

Been looking for something just like this, that it's an honest review from another Oppo seals the deal: just ordered one up, thanks for the pro tip!

Glad I could help. I was getting tired of using my cup holders for holding my iPhone. In fact, just the other day, my 11 year dumped a huge cup of Sprite in the cupholder. Fortunately, my iPhone was covering the Sync screen in our Fiesta.

I hate when people give me color options, especially when there's only two; I'm so dreadfully indecisive. Do I want black or white?

Well, you know what they say in the fashion world: Black goes with everything.
True for cars too.

For those with unstickable dash materials...
I picked this up at Walmart for $11 and it's been working out pretty well for the past few months. Believe it or not, sometimes the Made for TV crap actually works, haha. If nothing else, it was at least worth the price of admission. I mount it just beside my driver's side A-pillar and angle it down so that it's just close enough to my steering wheel to skip to the next song with my fingertip. Works pretty well, except for the slight loss of apex visibility on sharp left turns.

That looks like a really nice mount. I like how it drops down in front a bit to keep visibility to a maximum. I'll keep it in mind if/when I have to replace my phone.
I currently have a Motorola Atrix 4G and I bought the Motorola car dock on sale for $10 a while back. I don't use it much, but it's pretty darn good. It only fits this phone though.

Past mounts I've had were similar to yours - they work, but if you get a new case or something, you're out of luck. That's why I like this one.
