Razor was getting kind of filthy so I cleaned and polished it today. I use a Gillette Super Speed safety razor that belonged to my grandfather. I was complaining about the cartridge razor I was using at the time, and my mother gave this to me. Have used it ever since.
I can't stand using electric razors and cartridge razors are just ridiculously over priced. I would like to try a straight razor one day, but the upkeep on them seems a bit much.
I still have original Gillette blades, but they tend to leave a rougher shave, so I mostly use Wilkinson Sword Co. blades now.
Though I would like a proper stand I like having the original case.

Oppo has pulled out it's share of Classics the past few days. This is a good one. Only ever used one a few times, but the weight of it is so nice. Can you still buy replacement blades retail, or is it all "NOS"?

I agree that they are expensive, but I don't shave daily so it's not that much of a hit. I'll often go a week without shaving, until I have a gig or it just gets annoying. My father had a razor like yours, and I used to play with it as a boy, pretending it was some sort of space ship opening up. I was mesmerized by the workings of it.

I shave with a Gillette Milord model, from the late '40s. Representative image; mine is at home. Also apparently the Milord is just a gold version of your Super Speed.
I also have a black plastic long handle one I use on trips. It's not as nicely weighted as the Milord and also it's not gold so it doesn't look as good in the house lol
As for blades, right now I'm using the Kroger generic brand because they're cheap and readily available. P good blades though, I get a nice shave each time and they last a decent clip.

Don't have pictures on me, but I use a LORD L6 with fantastic Voskhod blades. Brush, various soaps and creams and oils, etc... Would love to have a razor like yours but haven't had any trouble with my cheapie razor. I'll upgrade some day...

How about that, they actually make pink safety razors. Though cheaper in the long run, I'd be scared to shave anywhere else but my face with a safety razor. They are slightly more prone to nicking.

Women's razors are stupid expensive. These are cheaper than most and last much longer.
For those of you looking to switch to safety razors or straight razors check out this article .

You can find them at most grocery stores or the likes of Wal-Mart. Usually around $1.50 to $4.00 for a 10 pack. One blade lasts me about 5 shaves.

You should definitely get a brush, then. Jack Black makes a nice "Beard Lube" that is what I use when I don't have a brush. I like the soaps though, they last forever. Right now I like Taylor of Old Bond Street's sandalwood soap.

My daily use razor is an Edwin Jagger DE89L. I alternate between Astra and Feather blades depending on how rich I am feeling at the time.
I use an Omega boar brush (I have tried both badger and boar brushes and my personal preference is for boar), and I rotate through various scents of Taylor's Of Old Bond Street shaving cream, with good old Proraso thrown in every once in a while.
I like a good old fashioned Bay Rum aftershave like Captains or Ogallala.

Here's mine. You should try one. It's amazing how much closer a shave you'll get. Also, man points +10.
The upkeep isn't bad. You just have to strop it before every shave. Every 4 months or so, hone it. It's not time consuming or difficult.
It is a little more expensive than a double-edged razor, but worth every penny. If you want to get started, I can't recommend Whipped Dog Razors highly enough. Larry will get you sorted with a top quality razor for a pittance. So really, you have no excuse. Join us!

I haven't shaved in 10 years, but have a cheaper version of yours with the disposable blades for the occasional trim.
If I ever shave again, I'll get one like this. Straight razor with disposable blades. Much less maintenance then a steel blade straight razor.

I have a Gillette Merkur adjustable similar to yours.
Don't lose it. It is the best shave you can get other than a Straight or "cut throat" razor.
I use Burma Shave soap pucks and a Horse hair brush.

It would save you money in the long run and give you a better shave. Bodies vary in price, but replacement blades come in 10 packs which are usually less than $4.

I usually use this (with disposable blades) to shape up my mustache and beard. I've occasionally shaved my entire face with it (when my Gillette was out of cartridges) but found it very time consuming as I was trying to make sure I didn't slit my throat

Before that, I had been using the 3 blade cartridges from the dollar shave club. Decent enough. I'm not that fussy or stubbly to really care that much.

I use a safety razor, and I have a shavette, but I've only tried it once because I hacked my neck to pieces when I tried it. I do want to try a real straight razor at some point, but I have no idea whether it will be nicer than the shavette.

I was going to get a straight razor until I saw the maintenance involved. I'd still love to get a shave by one though.

If you get your own some barbers will shave you with it. I'd make sure to bring a strop, but they should know how to.
