This weekend I rousted a few of my motorcycle friends and we made our way on over to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to check out the Extinct Car Day, an assemblage of old iron (and a bit of aluminum) from bygone automakers. Some were failed experiments, some were absorbed into one of the Big Three, others just slunk away, either lagging too far behind or reaching a bit too far. When we rumbled in - two Hondas, two Triumphs, and a Sportster sans baffling (read: silly loud) - the show was winding down, but there were still a few gems still milling around.

Somehow, living in Boston for nearly 4 years I had never come across this museum, only really getting excited about it last week after seeing the beautiful cars that attended the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The museum itself is pretty fantastic. Where else can you find old racing cars, horseless carriages, and a Ferrari F2002 F1 car stuffed into a majestic old carriage house? I can't think of any.

The real drive for this excursion was to squeeze a few more riding days out of the increasingly chilly October we have been having in the Northeast and to give my itchy shutter finger a chance to get some exercise. I have been trying to reconcile my love of cars, and motorcycles, and basically anything mechanical, with my love and training in photography. Go to a somewhat snooty art school and try to make a project about cars and their owners.... maybe you'll have luck. I know I didn't. I've always loved photographing people and have done it well. Body position, facial tics, absent hair twirling; they have always drawn me in. Translating that to inanimate objects, lacking the organic forms and movements, has very rarely been my strong suit, but we're supposed to try what doesn't come easily right? Right?

Kinja'd!!!

So what I'm trying to do is photograph people, something that I am familiar with, with their objects that they have formed and shaped, possibly imbued them with a bit of themselves. This might be a crock of shit, but I want to try.

Kinja'd!!!

What I'm hoping to accomplish is imbue a bit of myself into these photos, a bit of my passion for engines and film. Hopefully I'm showing you the connection I feel to these people, showing how achingly beautiful these masses of metal and rubber can be and how alive they can become in the hands of their caretakers. Here are the images, or at least a few. You can view the rest !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and check out my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and my on again/off again magazine !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , if you really are a glutton for punishment.

I love going to larz Anderson, Not just for the car days but the landscape offers great photography opportunities with people/ dogs and the landscape. and the top of the hill provides one of the best views of whole city that you can get. I try to hit it up once a month. Feel free to let me know if you want some company or some more awesome places to go for views of the city/ places to see rare cars.

Larz has some great lawn events throughout the year. I try to attend at least one or two every year. Wandering the grounds is also a lot of fun.

Did you get to the basement in the museum? They have the Andersons original cars in their last driven condition. Pretty damn cool.

Definitely man! I am always up for some rare machinery. The views at the top are pretty spectacular, thats where the first few images are from. I am just now discovering that Boston actually might have a car/motorcycle culture, and it is a very welcome discovery.

The basement is pretty rad, I want to investigate that little study thats closed off though, there was a great beemer in there and a car instead of a table, so definitely worth a further investigation.

both are fantastic builds, brap brap for the CL and a meaty roar from the CB.

I love the CL bikes, always wanted a scrambler, but the larger engine CL series are tough to find, and at 6'0" 200lbs, a 175 just wont move me.

yeah Jeremy, the owner of the CL, is perfectly sized for the bike, its a serious lane splitter. Im 5'11" and 230 and don't want to even think of what would happen if I through my leg over that little guy.

I've never been on a bike (with a motor), and don't know quite what I'm looking at, but damn these look good.
