Police now have James Bond like tech with GPS tracker "bullets". The device is mounted to the front of the cruiser. And instead of chasing you the Officer simply fires an air powered 'bullet" at your car to track you instead. The system cost $5,000 all together and each bullet is $500. They're being used in states like Iowa, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia. You've been warned!
However, for the passerby, won't it be fun to see police car grills open up and bullets being shot out of them?

Surely there's already some sort of signal jammer on the market. Also, the video said they could only get 1:4 to stick to a parked car in the demo, perhaps this could be foiled by simply keeping your car well washed and waxed, haha. Possibly this might make a good paint, too.

Ditto — but maybe be a little nicer to our fellow Opponauts, fellow Opponaut.

They are easy enough to buy on line, but very illegal to possess in the US. Also, don't go anywhere near an airport with one. They tend to react quite harshly.

You can buy a jammer for all types of frequency, but you would have to be preparing to run at that point.

And 3...2...1... "This is the ACLU and we demand you stop using this technology."

There are so many different police vehicles in service where I live. Every time I think about speeding I have to watch for
CHP in a Charger/Durango/Silverado
Sheriff in Taurus/Explorers/Crown Vic
Local PD in All of the above

Something about firing bullets from a moving car seems like a bad idea, even if it is a GPS tracker. I imagine being hit by one of those would hurt like hell, and we all know cops already tend to miss things with the pistols they are issued, now they get to fire GPS bullets from a moving car?

Damn that's rough. I'm kinda going through the same thing. LMPD is switching from Crown Vic's to Tauruses and there are civilian versions everywhere. Not to mention all the unmarked Mustangs.

Its a big air cannon, the same tech they use to shoot shirt's into crowds and no one ever complains about that.

I didn't even mention the random Camaro, Mustang, or Tahoe that they operate. It is just ridiculous. Unmarked cars here could be anything from a Stratus to a Corvette, whatever they impounded and feel like using before they auction it off.

so, as I understand it, this is so they can back off to avoid a high speed chase, so by design the police will drop back and give you room to "get away" and then remove the device, and truly get away?

all you need is one of these bad boys and you're home free.

The police drop back but the officer has a real time location of the suspect and would be directing units to that location. And like the video I watched said the suspects don't even know it's on the vehicle. Plus even if they did remove it the cops know what your vehicle looks like. As the old sayings goes "You might be fast but, you can't outrun the Motorola".

valid, true, yes
I think they could notice the THUNK when it hits, but they will be all adrenaline rush and such. And I guess if they stop even for a moment to remove it the cops will jsut catch up.

Pardon me for sounding so irritated. Allow me to edit:
Good sir, I believe that the correct spelling for the word that you are using is "they're." It is an honest mistake (that does not reduce the credibility of the article as a whole) that anyone could make.
Have a jolly good day, old chap.

Well we have an unmarked Dodge Caravan, 10th gen 97-03 F-150, Trailblazers, a few Ford 500's and even a Chrysler Sebring. And their starting to used slicktops but without graphics on the back so they look like a regular car including Mustangs.

So the officer involved in the high speed chase will also have to aim and fire this device? Seems a little dangerous. If you get close enough to use the device couldn't you just get the license plate number and back off? Seems like a good idea on paper but not so much in real life.

Oh @#$% that
![]() 10/28/2013 at 14:51 |

Oh you have it bad? In my town the police have: unmarked Charger R/Ts in every possible color, white F-150s that have DOTS (not police) markings on them, a black mustang GT, a few camaros, several Explorer SUV things. Normal troopers ride around in normal Chargers. In almost all cars the external light bars have been eliminated in favor of an in car system.

A license plate just tells you who and where the car is registered to. Even if the person that's driving it actually owns it, it doesn't mean he/she is stupid enough to simply drive back to their own place of residence.
If the car is stolen, that of course is a whole other story as well.

GOD DAMMIT YOU BEAT ME TO IT!!!!
#Justice4Maud
Seriously though, I imagine these things are supposed to stick to a moving car, and to do that it probably pierces the metal or plastic. I would not want to be shot by one of these.

If they stop following you couldn't you stop really quickly throw into onto a passing car so they follow the wrong car and get away?
