edmunds - pandering reviews to the beige and the bland drivers of the world

I think that's more saying that Diesels used to be paired with the transmissions from farm equipment.

Edmunds is drivel.

Because that would be greater than 50% of car buyers

I do not agree with all the comments. Diesels do come with their advantages and disadvantages. It really comes down to use.
A long commuter on the highway or a person who tows things like hay or livestock will see a benefit. An in town shopper will not see the benefit because of the increased cost of the engine and the increased cost of the fuel.

Right. So there's really no reason why they shouldn't pander to a group of people who make up the largest percentage of the car market.

except those people generally don't sit down and read car reviews because they don't really understand, nor care, how cars perform. As long as its cheap and gets 30+ mpg, its good enough.
This is why people keep buying toyotas. Who cares if they have interiors made out of old dvd cases, its a TOYOTA! Shut up and take my small amount of money!

Yeah I just thought that it was a funny comment. Crude manual transmission, lol

That says 'manual transmissions which were crude', not 'manual transmissions are crude'.

Not necessarily, but people do buy cars based on their resell value and if they are highly-reviewed. Consumer Reports (can't speak for Edmunds) always recommended the Corolla. A "beige" car as you would call it, but a respected source recommended it so people bought it.
