"PatBateman" (PatBateman)

Go on, guess. I bet you can't guess. Okay, fine, I'll tell you. It's an authentic Japanese WWII NCO Samurai Sword!!
Yes, I know it is not a car, and I promise not to post any more non-vehicle pictures or topics, but this is cool. My grandfather was in the US Navy in the 1940's, and was on the USS Baltimore when it docked in Nagasaki directly after the "Fat Man" atomic bomb was dropped on the city. He came home with this sword, taken from a Japanese soldier. It's not worth much, maybe $1,000 (my uncle came over today and appraised it, he is an antiquities dealer), but it's a family heirloom and will stay in my possession. I'd like to get it mounted but I'm not sure where I'd put it. I doubt that my employer would allow me to display a lethal weapon in my office.
Just wanted to share. Here is an applicable picture:

Thank you, sir. I keep busting it out, screaming angry, nonsensical Japanese while opening it over my head when they aren't listening to me. I think they're scared of it now. LOL

I would be lying if I said that I haven't opened it up like I was an extra on Kill Bill Vol. 2 a few times. Thanks!

Don't mount it, a sword like that deserved to be used:

Now I just need to grow a beard and buy a kimono.

That's really cool. My grandfather also had some "mementos." At one point we had a luger, two knives, a bunch of medals, and a copy of Mein Kampf. My father sold everything except the book. No one wanted that I suppose.

Actually, I'd hang on to that copy of the book. Especially if it was taken in WWII (possibly a first print). You never know.

Man am I jealous. My grandfather had picked up a katana and bicycle when he landed at Kiska, but when he went back to his landing craft after the "assault" he saw an officer walking away with them. Not much he could say at that point.

This is Oppo, Pat. We all enjoy a good post, especially when it comes to unique things. Do not stop just because it is not car related.

I would start with. "Hey thats my stuff!" And then depending on how the conversation flows I might say something like "Give me it back."

Very nice :) I'm very into edged weaponry/tools. In fact, I might just try to work my way into the knife design area if I land this job in the next few weeks...
I'd love to get my hands on some authentic stuff like that.

That would be the logical thing to do today, but that was then and my grandfather was just an NCO. No bicycle is worth that sort of risk.

As a beginning kendoka, I approve.
