Kinja'd!!!

Last weekend i attended a track experience at Silverstone, while i was parking up i noticed a rather filthy looking 370z in a distant corner of the car park. Upon closer inspection, what looked like dirt was green grime from where it has been stood for a very long time.

Kinja'd!!!

Its a left hand driver model. A few of the alloys had one or two kerb marks on them, the discs were rusted but smooth and unused. Its front bumper had scrapes at both corners, the Z from the back was missing and the passenger door had been pierced by something.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Most of the green gunk coated the protective plastic which was still on the car, the interior was also covered in all its protective delivery garb. The passenger window was slightly down and water had been getting inside.

Kinja'd!!!

After a little amount of digging it turns out that its there as a donor car for GT Academy, the pierced door actually looks a slightly different shade of white so it could be from another car.

It breaks my heart to see what i yearn to be my next car sitting there in such a state! :-(

Full story and a few more pics here.

I love abandoned new cars, for some reason. It's just so ironic and ridiculous that they are entertaining to see.

Old cars: not cool, bro.

That seems pretty backwards now that I put it that way.

I'm going to guess that it is some kind of flood damage.

For what it's worth, I've seen that kind of thing happen to a car parked under a tree for just a few weeks at the wrong time of year. If it's the kind of tree that dumps lots of pollen, one rainstorm can be enough to wash it all down onto the car, and it pretty shortly looks like the green growth in the pictures.

I'm imagining this is what cars now will look like in 40 years after being abandoned, just like you see 30-40 year old cars abandoned under trees or something today.

I'm so torn. I don't really consider this a Z, yet my heart bleeds for it. Why don't they at least wash it and put it under cover?

Why dont you class it as a Z? I know i mean they cant be short of space for ONE car!

Kinja'd!!! Casper > carwitter

Kinja'd!!!1

In my mind true Z's should still be light sports cars not GT cars, and the 350Z+ have been disgraceful showings... it's like they jumped back to the Z31. The 370Z was a step in the right direction with the engine, and two steps back in most other areas.

True! I would love to see a lightweight, stripped out 370Z. I have been out in a track prepped 370 and that was very raw!

I just went back and built a 240Z. It was easier and cheaper to go back in time and get one that was already built right for the time and modernize it than it was to try to change one of the new ones into a good sports car. They just lack too much soul, and that's a hard thing to create.

Kinja'd!!! carwitter > Casper
11/13/2013 at 17:57

Kinja'd!!!1

240Z's cost about $16,000 over here for a half decent one, waaay too much!

Kinja'd!!!1

Ouch. I picked mine up for more than I normally pay (just under $4,000, normally I try to get them for around $2,000 but I wanted very little rust). Of course I turned around and dumped $15,000 just into parts... then decided to take it down to bare metal and do a high quality paint job and full undercoating.

Almost ready to go back to dropping the engine and drivetrain in... can't wait.

Yep. I'll do a whole write up when it's all done. I also started sticking some info about what I am learning while doing this build on a website for people wanting to do the same engine swap. It's over at www.sr240z.net .

I’m going to have to agree that flood damage is a possibility on that one.
