Giving a miata that much power is monumentally stupid, but it might just be stupid enough to work

Everything about that is ridiculous. And awesome. But ridiculous. 110 Octane MINIMUM?!? Nuts.

Nice Price. Tooooooooooooooootalllllllyyyyyyyyyyy worth it. i would LOVE to drop that into a Camaro SS 1LE; and the funny thing is that it would still cost less than the Z28!!!!

Yea people forget that when a car is set to be a certain weight and have a certain balance it changes everything when you stick a few hundreds pounds in the front of something, it changes everything.
Some company's do it right though and redo everything including putting the engine farther back to make that balance the same. It's like all the guys that dump VR6's in the 80's Rabbits. It is cool but that is a lot of added weight in the front, grab a 1.8 turbo keep close to the original balance.

Flyin' Miata went as far as to stick Cadillac CTS-V Positraction rear end in their '94 V8 Miata which IIRC actually helped the weight distribution quite a bit.

Recommended . 105 will probably work quite well, too.

Go "green" and run it on bio-methanol. Mediocre energy density, but plenty of octane (The M100 standard is rated at 116). And, bonus, low exhaust gas temperatures!

Hint: So can anyone with a 426, 440, 427, 454, access to a machine shop and half a brain.

Because it's cheaper for Chevy to demand that you run 110 octane than for them to get another 500 peak rpm.

It's perfectly fine if you select new spring rates and dampeners to deal with the change in balance. This vague notion of "Balance" is really just a few parts that are sensitive to the F/R weight distribution, nothing more.

This is actually a very good price. You can build an honest to goodness hypercar for a fraction of the normal price.

Imagine dropping this engine in a track focused kit car. You would destroy everyone.

I believe that it's trying to say it's not street-legal, but is intended for track use.

I'd put it in the base Camaro. Why pay for the SS to rip out the engine?

More over...steelies.

yeah, but you would need to update the transmission, and you cant get the 1LE package, which has better brakes and suspension. If you buy a V6, and add the parts, labor & time, u are pretty close to the price of a used SS, and if u go on a forum like Camaro5, they will reccomend starting with an SS if u want to build an ultimate camaro, although it is completely doable with a base V6 model.

Thomson Automotive (the Wixom, MI shop that did the development work for GM on the LSX454R) built an all aluminum 442 inch LS motor for me that makes 740 HP at 6500 and 650 foot-pounds at 5400. On 91 octane...

Here's a thread discussing the motor. Specs are in post #26. If you are seriously interested in the 454R, talk to Brian before buying one. He has some interesting things to say...
