There's Ferrari Club racing going on at NOLA Motorsports Park, so I decided to bring my camera out and practice getting motion blur into shots, as well as take pictures of all of the pretty parked cars. Twenty minutes or so into the race, one of the F430s caught fire coming around the last turn before the straightaway and I was lucky enough to already be focused on it.

After the race, I found the team's trailer, asked what happened (he went off the track and scooped up grass into all of the ducts, then kept going instead of pitting out to clear everything) and showed them the pictures. The crew though it was awesome and asked me to send them the pictures. I feel validated as a photographer. I have successfully taken pictures that someone else wants to see. :D

There are many more pictures to come for you all, Oppo, but I figured I'd make this post because I feel awesome.

...And the driver feels validated as a Ferrari owner.

I wish NOLA motorsports park would get more pub from magazines and blogs. They act like Road ATL is the only good track in the southeast.

Well, to be fair it's only been around a couple of years. It's still taking its steps into the world. But you're right, I wish people would talk about it more. I mention it every time I get the chance because I've seen how great its facilities are and I've driven the track— it's heaps of fun. I hope that more spectator events like the Ferrari Club Racing event find their way to NOLA Motorsports Park. I think that's what is going to bring it into being more well-known (and maybe they'll finally build some spectator seating, but that's wishful thinking.)

True. I just wish manufacturers would sponsor events there.

I know the feeling...in making the rounds at various races this year (IndyCar/ALMS/Grand-Am) I've had several drivers comment on the photos I've printed to have them sign, and on a couple occasions buy photos from me. Ryan Dalziel tweeted out one of my photos of him from the Brickyard Grand Prix complete with a shout out to me...which was awesome. For me at least.

It's pretty cool having a driver seriously want the pictures, then having their actual email address and discussions with them. I know I won't ever actually make money at this, so the times I've sold photos it's been dirt cheap for them. Waiting on another email from a driver at VIR during ALMS, I held off until after Petit to send and email, so we'll see if anything comes to fruition.
