Hey Oppo, I've got a pretty sweet drive through the mountains coming up tomorrow and a new iPod hookup in the M3. I'm burning the midnight oil putting together an awesome playlist for the trip. So far the list is four hours long. I've got a three hour drive each way, so using science, I've determined that I have two hours of space left to fill.
So Oppo, what are your favorite songs to compliment a bit of spirited driving?
I did something like this the other day with Top Gear episodes and ended up with 500 comments to read. So hopefully posting at this ungodly hour will keep everything a bit more low-key.

Oh and I saw your FP Top Gear post. Did you read all the comments from that?

This gets stuck in my head constantly. I'll be working in the lab and get a really good yield and the first thing that pops into my head is this. I have no idea why.

I always use some songs by Digitalism:
Encore
Circles
And my currently favourite band, Django Django:

I see..
Well then, i only have techno and reggae in my CLS. And oh, a bit of jazz.

That's because this is the song of winning. If you ever feel stuck on something, turn it on. You will get inspired almost instantly.

Techno and reggae? I see you like a wide variety of drugs.

Yeeeees! I already have Danger Zone and the Beverly Hills Cop theme on there. This will compliment them nicely.
And yeah dude, I read every single comment. Kinda felt obligated I guess. Still not sure how that ended up on the FP.

Well, maybe.
And oh, i love some bits from the 90's like this:

Hell yeah!
It's a strange place, the FP. I felt overwhelmed with about 250 comments on my only FP post. I don;t know how the hell you read all those.

Everyone needs some theme music for their life. Mine is the theme from Shaft .

Cool, and thanks for getting the A Team song out of my head!

Not really my style. I am kinda diggin on that third one though.
![]() 10/25/2013 at 04:55 |

Not sure why. I'm pretty open-minded to music, and I've had a bunch of people try to get me into techno. But all to no avail.

Ha!
![]() 10/25/2013 at 04:59 |

nah, it's normal.
I know lot of people that don't like it as well.
How about 90's rock, like garbage-i think i'm paranoid?

I mean, some reggae is alright to drive to if you're in the right mood. But probably not great for canyon carving in an M3. If you're on a long road trip through a flyover state in a car with a velour interior, crank it up.

Yeah, giddyup. I already have some Offspring and Chili Peppers and such on there.

I love Reggae when I'm on a beach. It sounds wrong everywhere else.

Are you stoned right now, or do you only do that at the beach?

I like that. Too long for the playlist though.
![]() 10/25/2013 at 05:08 |

Haha. Alcohol is my drug of choice. That may be the problem.
![]() 10/25/2013 at 05:12 |
|
That is the problem. Your state of mind is off for reggae. You might prefer old style country or grunge rock.

Dude, I'm in to damn near everything. Pretty much all flavors of rock, rap (old school only — autotune and club beats are the devil), funk, R&B, folk, country, bluegrass, 80s. All good stuff.

I always have some Initial D eurobeat ready in my car. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it gets me amped for driving and is catchy as hell.

Running for the hills, matey?
Perhaps you'll meet a Super Bee...
...on a joyride?
Gotta run now, more soon, if you like this. :)

Techno techno, or electronic dance music in general?
I used to DJ (yes, 12" vinyl, those black discs, and turntables) and even then, a decade ago or so, I wasn't into putting labels on music. But techno, trance, and progressive, to name a few, all differ.
Usually techno is to minimalist/pounding for my taste, but sometimes a good techno mix can drag me right along into enjoyment, upping the volume as I go. Trance is, well, in a way too sweet and floaty. Progressive? Yes please!
Give this a try, it's a one hour set that makes an appearance on my commute every other month or so. As EDM styles go, this is probably more accessible than techno: James Warren - Iridescent @ Soundcloud

Oh ... and in driving terms, listening to Rammstein kinda overcooks things. I have reign myself in, otherwise things get... unwise. Out of self-control I kinda banned those guys from my car.

You look like you need a healthy dose of Southern rock because merica.
I'm not sure it'll embed it because I'm on mobile, and I'm not even sure the link works. If not, the song is Flirtin with Disaster by Molly Hatchet

I'll nominate Spacegrass, or really just about anything from Clutch.
Plowed by Sponge would be another good one.
Some Bubba Sparxx is good every now and again.

I've been rocking out to Goldfish quite a bit lately.

I've always found Kashmir to be a good driving song. It might have a slow tempo, but the intensity just can't be beat.
