When someone asks me "Do you even know anything about cars?" In a snobby tone. Yeah, sure I know nothing about cars. They get an interest learn a few things and all of a sudden they know everything and I know nothing. I'm not saying I know everything about cars and I don't, but I certainly know a lot more than this certain individual. And sure it shouldn't bother me, and it didn't at first, but by the third time it was asked by the same person it disgruntled me a bit. If it were any other topic it wouldn't bother me, but something I obsess over, research, and live for every day gets underneath my skin. I should probably just ignore it and keep on keepin on. End rant. Opponauts what are your thoughts?

Kinja'd!!!

Happens to me all the time. I just prove them wrong later on when they try to explain something car related

His problem, not yours. Hopefully he grows out of it.

Bring up obscure car makes and see what they know.

DKW, Cord, Goliath, Borgward, Glas, Monteverdi, NSU, DAF, Auto Union... the possibilities are endless

I banned an asshole from my FB group who watched a 15 minute TV show clip about the 2002 mercury marauder convertible concept, came on my group, said he didn't even know the car existed, then called all of us idiots when we told him the car was built on a 99 crown vic chassis. After I gave him the vin for the car, with a letter stating it was built off a 99 crown vic, I banned his ass for being a tard.

Does he work at Jiffy Lube and post on the front page as a burner?

Don't pay them any attention. There will always be that one "car enthusiast" that is like: "dude, Lambos are the best", etc.

I kind of have the same problem, but under completely different circumstances. I'm not enough to drive, but I would e finitely cal myself an enthusiast. But, I'm not old enough to drive, and therefore, people don't take me seriously when I talk about cars. I was walking my dog a few hours ago, and there were 3 guys, two in their mid-20's, the other around 18, all wrenching on an older IROC-Z, trying to get it started. It had a nice sounding exhaust on it, for the 10 seconds they could run it. As I walked by I casually said, "Hey, when you got it running a bit ago, it sounded pretty nice!" And one of them just wentin a flat and sarcastic voice," Yeah , thanks kid". And the 18 year old looked at me with one of those "*Please*" expressions. They probobly thought I was some dumbass who just watches NASCAR for the crashes, and doesn't know jack-shit about cars. (To which I say, I do know about cars, thank you very much. Also, isn't that all why we watch NASCAR?) But I don't mind, because I honestly don't blame him. But still, those people can be annoying.

Great idea really, that tends to shut many people up.

Also, those makers you listed are the who's who of awesome/quirky automakers

2 stroke FWD; 1st american FWD/streamlined bodies; 3 wheel trucks/2 strokes/FWD; 3 wheelers/2 strokes/FWD; goggomobil; weird swiss cars; rotaries forever; flat twin/CVT; combination of the awesomeness of DKW/Audi/Horch/Wanderer + silver arrows

Usually I keep to myself. But sometimes I explain, in-depth, the relationship between the chicken tax and the ford transit and people are like "where the heck did that come from?"

Well shit...I only knew about cord and monteverdi! Though I doubt most people would know what a koenigsegg or a noble is.

I'm don't really look like how you would expect a massive car guy to look. So when people come into my bookstore looking for shop manuals and I start talking to them about their cars they're always a bit surprised.

Interesting fact! There are a TON of people that restore beetles in Louisiana!

I had some jackass in college overhear me talking about rotary engines, grab a pencil and draw a basic 'dorito-in-a-peanut' on some scrap paper as he chimed in. I'm thinking, hey, here's someone else who gets it... Then the guy proceeds to talk about how the pistons are arranged elsewhere, and I just facepalmed my way out of that conversation. SO HARD.

I've only encountered one fellow like that...but the topic lent itself easily to some schooling.

Unfortunately, some people (and you will know them when you see them) are NEVER EVER WRONG...in those cases, just smile and nod.

Cars are our subculture...it doesn't always need to be known that we know, you know?

Lots of things work, and mine is the Florida II, followed by the Beta HPE, Aurelia B24, Stratos and the Delta Evolution.

Supercar makes are generally more high-profile for their size, since many supercars are bedroom-poster material.
