I made an appointment yesterday for today to get state inspection on the car. Dropped it off this morning, the guy first says "I have you down for inspection and oil change."
"Inspection only, please. I never asked for an oil change, I just did it recently."
It was done at a local mechanic/gas station that my family always goes to... I avoid them like the plague usually for things like maintenance and oil change but it is closest to my place and state inspection is a flat rate across the board.
I go home, a few hours pass, they called me and said "Hey, your inspection is done. Everything's fine except your wiper blades were pretty bad so I changed them for ya." They charged $41 for wiper blades... and I never asked them to do that in the first place.

Simple solution.
Show up and tell them "I only authorized an inspection, so you did the blades without my authorization. I won't be charged for unauthorized work, here is the money for the inspection, now give me my keys please."

'That was not required, strike the cost or replace the old blades.'
Done.

"I hope you saved the old ones," I would have said. " I don't think the owner would like that you are giving stuff away..."
(he gets in two syllables, then I interrupt) "Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it.. But I wouldn't feel right getting them for free..."

$41 for blades. I wonder how often people pay without questioning that.

My dad came with me to pick up the car and he argued with the guy so I took my keys and went home... (truth it's actually my sister's car so it doesn't matter who pays for it, she has to pay us back).

I didn't ask for this.

well.... it is part of the inspection to check the wipers... so if you told them to remove and replace with the originals they would likely fail you, and your time going to buy your own and coming back to re-inspect would for me, not be worth $41.
