Honda has recently announced a new roadster concept to be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in November. The S660 (pictured above), will be powered by a 660cc motor (duh), however the possibility of a 1.0l motor has been discussed.
The biggest surprise for me is the powertrain. Honda presented the EV Ster a couple of years ago, so the 'backward' step to internal combustion is quite refreshing.
A new NSX coming plus this little guy would seem to indicate that Honda is not just a boring brand anymore. Maybe they've been watching Toyota's success of late...

Perhaps we'll see a revival of the Beat nameplate.

Jesus Honda please introduce a real successor to the S2000 soon. And when I say real I mean real, not some bullshit successor like the crz. I need more s2000s to hit the market, the prices just won't drop dammit

Nope.
The S660s designer Ryo Sugiura shrugged off speculation it will be a rehash of the Honda Beat , a smashingly popular mini convertible of the early 1990s.
“Some people might think this will be the remodeled version of the Beat. But it is not. This is totally brand new,” Mr. Sugiura said.

It's hard to get an idea of scale from the photos, but this is much smaller than the S2000.
With a 0.66l engine, it's comparable to the Suzuki Cappuccino.

probably because it's (allegedly) using the FWD drivetrain from the Honda N-ONE

Yes this looks very, very, very small. Clues I see in the pics that can give us an idea of scale:
*Look at how long the door is compared to everything else. There is basically just a door, two wheels and the slimmest of overhangs.
*Let's imagine the wheels are 16" in diameter. The car seems to be about 6-7 times the length of one wheel. That would make it about 112" long. Tiny!
*The drivers seat looks so narrow! The steering wheel probably isn't that big, and appears to be nearly as wide as the seat. This is not a car for wide people.
What's neat about this car is that you could setup an AutoX track for it on not much land. The parking lot at my office is pretty big and not used on weekends. Just bring some cones and go!

Looks great, but if you want one, move to Japan.

The high rear deck and forward cabin makes it look mid-engined though :(

(granted I'm going off Journalists/Bloggers speculation, the N-One drive train could easily be moved back behind the cabin to drive the rears instead of the front)

NEVER MIND OTHER JOURNALISTS ARE SAYING IT'S MID ENGINE, MOVE ALONG NOTHING TO SEE HERE
