I repaired one of the nuts and made another out of scrap steel (the hole was already there when I got the piece). Don't mind the poor weld, it was only my second time using a MIG welder. The perks of being the shop teachers aide are wonderful. I get access to all sorts of metal working tools. Welders, sheet metal tools, mills, plasma cutters, etc. I do no work for the teacher or class, I just sit around and build parts for my car.

I still make welds that ugly and I've been welding for years... Part of the problem being not doing it continually enough to get good.

Also, a vise is far and away the best ghetto metalforming device that exists.

You are correct, and my usually acceptable spelling has faceplanted on this occasion.

What happened with the hole on the left?! Forget you had a hole saw, then did the one on the right?

Nah, the piece of scrap I found already had a hole in it (one of the kids in the class was trying to use a plasma torch). It just worked out that the hole was about the correct size so I just left it. The one on the left is the factory piece, I just had to make a new foot for one side.
