This is a screencap from the show Covert Affairs, pictured on the street is a red 80s Firebird on what is supposed to be a street in Frankfurt, Germany. Now I think this show films in Canada a lot, but they also do on-location shots as well. So the question is, is this piece of Pontiac history being driven by a well meaning German, a wannabe David Hasselhoff perhaps? Or is it just a Canuck out for Molson and moose jerky that got caught in filming?

Also of note, there was a Dodge Caliber being driven in a scene that was definitely filmed on the Autobahn. You may want to take that in to consideration.

I'm feeling Europe for no reason than that Trans Am is in strangely perfect shape. I've never seen a 3rd gen in decent shape in the US or Canada.

Very true. Not too many trailers have garages.

Seems way to clean to be in frankfurt.. The street, not the car..

There are lots more US cars near US military bases than you tend to find normally around Europe, because they get brought over by servicemen, then left behind. What used to be West Germany had a particularly high number of US servicemen stationed there. If I remember rightly, there were more US soldiers stationed in Germany than in Vietnam at the height of the Vietnam war.

You can see the distribution of bases near Frankfurt. It's really not too surprising to see something like that Firebird around there.

It's a bit like this: http://goo.gl/maps/NYWgV

Seeing one of those in rural Norfolk would be utterly bizarre if you didn't know about the US bases round there.

Haha, how long have you been waiting for an excuse to use that street view? It certainly gives some perspective to how narrow English roads are. Good point on the bases, that could very well be where the car came from. I'm still in favor of it being a SuperHoff fan.

Heh, I've mentioned that area before on here, when it's come up. Something distinctly American enough to make my point is common enough round there that each time I've just randomly dropped the streetview man into the area and found one within three or four tries.

In this case I cheated slightly on the fourth go and streetviewed the common route between the back gate of RAF Lakenheath and the front gate of RAF Mildenhall. (They're both nominally RAF bases, but only nominally.)

I'm not sure it gives the best idea of English roads. That's designated an A-road, but that designation must be decades old. If you zoom out on the map and streetview some of the A-roads marked in yellow, you'll see they're mostly much wider and straighter.

It's a Canadian Trans Am, for according to wiki, much of its production is filmed here in Toronto.

We make good business standing in for Generic Large American City, or, in this case, Generic Large Euro City. We're particularly known for our Chicago and New York City impersonations.
