Well, that's what some people say. Meanwhile here's a picture of the dashboard setup for Franklin Delano Roosevelt's car.

Well yeah but I mean to steer and shift at the same time with hand controls is pretty extraordinary.

Ingenious stuff. But it looks like he wasn't concerned about stopping...

I was wondering about that myself. Maybe the idea was if you push on the left-hand lever a little it engages the clutch and if you push it farther it does both the clutch and the brake.

"I've got a two-front war at the office and another two-front war in the driver's seat. Oh well, carry on! The only thing I have to gear is gear itself."

My brother turned 15 about six months ago and is of course learning how to drive. I offered to teach him to drive a stick in my car, but he declined. His reason? "It makes my head go back and forth and I don't like that." Wut.

Boy oh boy, if he thinks that's difficult wait 'til he finds out about the gas and brake pedals! If he needs to stare at a car's controls in order to operate them, he'll find out that you not only have to make your head go back and forth to see those pedals way down there in the shadows, but you also have to duck your head under the dash while driving, which is not just uncomfortable but unsafe as well.
