I need to find the engineer who designed that thing and beat him mercilessly while his family watches.
steps:
jack and support behind front subframe. Remove core support.
rip apart knuckles and wrists trying to get the top two mount bolts out.
bandage wrists.
pull off the nuts AND remove the reverse torx studs for the lower mount... With a swivel and two 8" extensions across two cross members.
now loosen the rear subframe bolts almost completely.
put a jack under the front beam of the subframe, take out the two front subframe bolts.
drop the jack, let the subframe drop. Move jack to engine/trans plate and jack it up as much as possible.
now pry and pray, and try to wiggle the damn thing loose from the crossmember
Once loose, cuss and scream for 10 minutes trying to pull it out between the cross members.
Now the mount and bracket are free. Clamp the bracket, and try to break free the 1 1/4 nut from the top.
installation is the reverse of removal.
4-5 hours start to finish in the driveway with all the right tools.
Now I can rest easy knowing its a shitty design, and will rip open again within the next 6 months.

Motor mount changes frighten me because on my E-class I have to use a jack on the engine to wiggle out one of the mounts. Something unsettling about jacking up something-all ready jacked up.

On a W210 diesel, they are less annoying, and require jacking the oil pan (use a piece of wood to distribute the weight). All that's really needed is a flex fitting to get to the top bolt on the passenger side (through the exhaust manifold).
The driver side top bolt can either take a flex fitting on the ratchet to snake into place, or remove the intake. At least the bottom bolts are easy since they cut access holes into the body.

It just scares the hell out of me having something nice and sturdy on jack stands...then 'disturbing' it with a jack :shudder:
