I need to get a new (or scrapyard) driver's side door lock cylinder for the E30. I'm in the UK; we're RHD here, so all the locks that wear-out and break are the driver's side ones, so replacements are few and expensive. A new one is upwards of £40, and scrapyard ones are rare enough that the prices get pretty close to that. I've found a couple on ebay US which would cost $50 in shipping and import fees alone, so that's out.
Presumably in LHD countries the right-hand-side door lock doesn't usually wear-out, so they're much easier to find at a scrappy. Probably cheaper postage if you're in Europe, but does anyone want to have a look around for me and see if you can find one for a few £/$/€? Thanks.
Oh, it's a '90 eurospec 318i saloon, though it shouldn't matter. The cylinder itself is fine on mine, but the body and catch on the end have fallen to pieces, so they're the bits I need.

Hmm. Someone will probably be able to come up with the part - I would try, but if you so much as mention "BMW" on the phone to the scrap yards around me, they cut you off with "nope" and hang up. But hopefully someone with access to BMW-inclusive scrapyards will be able to help you out.

That's weird. Why no BMW scrap?

You could try Ebay Germany, ebay.de. The first hit I got will expire in a few minutes which is probably too soon for you, but it seems exactly what you want except for being a left one. For €16.
My German isn't great and I'll guess yours as a Brit is worse, but with google translate you'll get far enough. Do keep in mind that the vast majority of German sellers have selected they'll only ship to Germany. Probably a standard feature of the site. If you ask in advance many will ship to the UK as well, and if you pay with paypal the currency difference is moot.
Türschloss = door lock (tür = door, schloss = lock)
Ersatzschloss = replacement lock
Beifahrertür = passenger door
rechts = right
Schlüssel = key (you could use this as a generic search word)
edit : is this what you want ? If there's a difference in key sizes he offers one with a small key as well. Ships world wide, you can pay with paypal. €10 excluding shipping.

My guess is that the owners part them out themselves, or have more lucrative means of disposal. Since European cars are generally sold in smaller numbers (or were in the generations we're referring to), they rarely turn up at scrapyards here in the US of A - it's all American or Japanese.

Ah, thanks, that's helpful. I just had a similar thought about French Ebay while I was off doing something else, and came back to find your post. You're in the Netherlands, right? Anything on Dutch Ebay?
BMW E30 Schloß Beifahrertür rechts mit Schlüssel groß looks like the right one. I think the one mit Schleussel klein is the same thing, but since they're the same price I might as well go for the one with the same size key I have, just in case there's any difference.

Oh drat, just realised the postage is €11 to the UK instead of €5. Still cheaper than I've seen, but it rankles to pay more in postage than for the lock. I'll check with BMW here and see if they can't sell me just the parts I need.

Dutch Ebay is a deserted wasteland. Not much going on there. Most people use the much less formal Marktplaats.nl, but I'd advise against that one when you're not picking up your stuff yourself. Besides, Germany has a much larger population than the Netherlands, so its only obvious you're more likely to find what you want over there. French Ebay could work, but my German is much better than my French so I personally prefer the German one. I'd guess an average German is more likely to speak English as well, but I can't back that up with anything other than anecdotal evidence.
