Anyone ever used National Carburetors? They have a Ponitac Quadrajet that has been rebuilt for $170 which seems like a great deal. Also, anyone have other places to buy relatively cheap rebuilt Quadrajets? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

No bulk rebuilder-sourced carburetor ever worked right in the entire history of the automobile. Especially a Quadrajet. In the 21st century a lot of car guys haven't learned this yet.
Find a Quadrajet specialist. One that can rebush the throttle shafts, straighten the base, and generally unbugger the thing. Someone who fully understands this devilishly complex device and can and get it to work like GM intended.
A properly-working Quadrajet delivers an excellent balance of power, fuel economy, and driveability until it's yanked off by a mullet who goes. "unh uhhnh Holley" or "durr durr Edelbrock durr durr".
Expect to pay about $400. It's money well spent. A bulk rebuilder carb is $170 flushed down the toilet.

And remember to budget for the professional garage time to analyze the exhaust. Any new or rebuilt carburetor will not be properly jetted for your engine, a good one might be close but not just right.

Exactly what Otto said, and after that you'll want to take it to an empty road and tweak the secondaries so they open at the proper time. GM NEVER set them right from the factory and it needs to be tuned to each engine. This alone is why people are surprised I can wipe the floor with them while using a "old QuadraCrap".
