From the way things look to me, they have had to modify the DP cars so much to compete with the P2 cars that they may end up being more expensive than the P2s. The whole point of DP was to have a class of prototype racing that was cheaper than LMP2. They never should have allowed two different classes of cars operating under two completely different rule sets compete for the same points.

Why don't they just erase the Daytona Prototype class, and have those teams run a spec car the same as the LMP cars? It seems simpler...

So they're making ~17 DP cars change instead of the 4 LMP2 cars? That's fucking retarded. Make the LMP2 class P1, and the Daytona Prototypes P2. DP teams are going to go broke instituting these changes.

The whole idea of not deleting the DP class was to reduce the cost burden on the teams, but the article says that it may actually cost less to buy a whole new P2 car and engine than it would be to upgrade their DP cars to the new specs.
As time goes on I'm getting more and more nervous about what 2014 holds for sportscar racing in the US.

That was essentially my thinking. DP and P2 should not be competing for the same points.

Now Scott Elkin is in full panic mode. Tried to get rid of the DP by increasing the cost to run them. Now that the DP has dominated the 24 Hours. IMSA is coming up with new rules. Giving the P2 even more fuel and a quicker filling buckeye and looking to adjust the HP of the DP down with more air inlets.
