So today I picked up some dielectric grease for my weatherstripping and accidentally got some on the plastic trim where I had wax residue (which I can never get off :S) and it seemed to remove it! Now I'm not sure if it actually removed it or just coated in some way so I did a quick test area:
Notice on the right of the black plastic area, thats the test. To the left is the evil white residue...

Are you offering practical car care tips on OPPO? Clearly you're in the wrong place.

Noted.

You're doing the same thing with dielectric (aka silicone) grease that you would do with back to black or other similar products.
I've done this before and was happy with the length of time before the fade came back.
Hitting it with a high power hair dryer or low power heat gun, carefully, will restore those plastics even longer.

Really? Just that exposure to heat will help?

Yeah. It brings the plasticisers to the surface.
When I bought my Xterra most of the plastics were dulled and after several coats of every "restoring" agent I could find I had enough. There was a how to on Club Xterra for the heat gun that worked great.

Hmm, curious. I think I'll try that out (I might see how long this lasts though).
Sidenote : what must my neighbours think, first I'm standing outside rubbing my car doors for an hour, then I'm holding my wife's hairdryer to the car... couple that with the fact that I wash my car far too often and I think they may have me framed as the crazy car nut.

You may get a few months out of the grease.
I say screw the neighbors.
I'll spend 2 to 3 hours cleaning my truck on a Sunday, go for a drive, find a mud pit to wallow in and ruin all that work in 3 minutes.
It's all about having fun.

303 Aerospace protectant works better than back to black or ultimate black. 303 is also not as greasy as either of those two.
