Japan's only V12, and it's awesome. It's only used in the Century, and was made because the Lexus V8 that was supposed to go into the second generation Century wasn't smooth enough. Yes, they thought the engine where you could famously stand a nickel on its side on top of the intake manifold while revving the engine and it would not fall over was too course and unrefined for their flagship car.
I love this engine. I love it love it love it. I love how it has two ECUs, one for each bank of 6, I love how Toyota decided to make a bespoke engine for a car they only sell less than 200 of a year, and I love that Top Secret bolted a couple of turbos to it and put it in a Supra and got it up to 250 miles per hour.

I want to put it in a Starlet, like, real bad.

Cheap at the price for something as nifty as that.

3 grand is a lot for most used engines, but for something as rare and special as this, it's a bargain.

Couple that with my friend's Century Bodyshell..

And it will be an absolute Sleeper!

A first-gen Century with a wool interior and a 1GZ/the six speed it comes with inside of it is my dream daily driver.

Ya.
A saloon with supercar performance and toyota reliability, what's not to like?

It may be the only road going Japanese V12, but honda has made V12s for F1 cars!

True.

I want this engine for my IS 300 (IS 500?)

They fit really well in them, from what I can gather. The unforseen benefit of having a straight six is you have the length for a V12, if you want it.

Was this the engine they put in the top secret supra? I thought it was just 2 2jz strapped together at crank.

It was one of these with two turbos and two custom-programmed HKS ECUs. The end result was 950 horses to the wheels.

I need this for my cruiser. if a 4.5 liter I6 fits, a 5.0 v12 ought to right?

Yes, and since it puts out 355 lb-ft of torque, it's a practical choice for that sort of vehicle!

300 ft-lbs from 1200 sounds ideal. Plus its obviously low stress getting only 276 hp from 5.0 liters....AND the transmission used it probably an A variant which means it would bolt right up. Hmmm. EDIT: holy shit, this would actually work. Its an A343e transmission (mine is an A343) and its basic mounts and configuration is the same as the 1uz-fe which was found in the 100 series cruiser and fits with a kit into the 80 series. This would actually work.

It actually puts out 310 horsepower, but due to the whole Japanese horsepower gentlemen's agreement that is only just now really starting to end, they "officially" stated the output to be 276.
And the transmission on this particular engine is a 4-speed A-series. I think it's an A40, but don't quote me on that.

for $3000, this is seriously temping. It would require some work, but Im 99% confident that you could hook this puppy right up to an 80 series with minimum fuss. A 5.0 liter v12 80 series would be the best thing...ever.

DO IT

I'm in consultation with a Toyota engineer with 2 80's right now. to see if its possible.

Toyota should've brought the V12 over here. It would be AWESOME to have a Japanese V12! The prestige of the European V12's but with legendary Toyota quality!
It would also compete with the Aston-Martin V12, the only American postwar V12. It would've been great in a Town Car.

I love the possibility that eventually Toyota would have called their friends at Yamaha and told them to fiddle around with it. I can only imagine how awesome that engine would be.

It would be the perfect engine for the LS-F

Hell yes and up yours for tangentially reminding me that the rumored GS-F with the LFA V10 has yet to surface.

It's worth noting that this engine has the -FE designation, meaning that a 310 horsepower V12 is somehow not the high-performance version.

Pirahna Brothers has acquired this engine to mate to a Corvette Torque Tube/6speed trans and install into a Porsche 928....Dual Turbos to follow.....
