So, the guy doing the radio commercials for the Petit Le Mans said that the event offers "endless racing." Now, I know for a fact that the PLM ends after 10 hours or less. So that got me thinking about a real endless race. At first it seemed pointless since there would always be a leader, but never a winner. But eventually I created the idea of an actual "endless" race that does have a definite winner: The winner is the driver who never finishes. It's an endurance race that means the death of all but one of the cars. They are given a minimum speed to travel at all times except when refueling, which happens during strictly regulated short breaks in which the engine cannot be shut off and any other maintenance work, as well as driver changes, has to be done at the same time. Obviously the driver and crew would wear flame-retardant suits since that part would be a massive fire hazard. But anyway, the cars go indefinitely until they fall below the minimum speed and stay there for a certain amount of time. It's not a test of driver skill so much as it is a test of just how long the cars can keep driving nonstop. The only way to lose is through a mechanical failure, and the winner is the car that simply never fails.

That would be a very long, very expensive race that would probably end with everyone crashing from exhaustion.

And this race exists. It is known as the 24 Hours of LeMons.
