2004 BMW 545I for 9.999 $

One rule: you have to own it for 10 years into the future, and drive it everyday.

The E60 is a terrible choice! It's gonna cost you a shitload and things are going to break really quickly. Source: I know 3 people who have had E60s (bought new) and all 3 of them were traded in within 2 years due to electrical gremlins, starter issues, and transmission problems.

I'd probably go with a 7.3L Powerstroke F250 4x4, 95-97.

I don't know if I would want to keep a 10 year old BMW for another 10 years. Last time I did that with a 5 series it started to rack up the bills.

Does it have to be a car from cars.com?

Not at all! You could even use craigslist.

And yeah, you might be right, but something about 333hp and great handling is getting the jobs done for me over 10 years

Well, since I can't get a 500E for $10k I'd pick a W124 with the 3.2L.

1) It's gorgeous

2) I'll last longer than 10 years

3) It's classy as fuck

Yeah, I ignored all the minor issues, it was when the power steering started acting up that she had to go.

I would probably buy this and hide it away in my collection... after I talked him down a little.

i'd own an -2004 BMW for 10 years... but never a 2004- That is just wallet suicide and im an auto technician with a dealer discount on parts lol. Saying this with a smile and not intended to offent, but any E60 is not a very good choice EVER!, except brand new then getting rid of it when it hits 60k miles. I'd personally go with what i just purchased for my little sister last Saturday, W210 E320 :] The tank of all tanks, ask any merc tech/ any tech.

Well over here it's just a Mercedes. I'm sure I would pay around $9,000 for a one-owner car. In the US (or in my experience) 1st owners trade in their car or sell it privately. The 2nd owner takes OK car of it and then sells it to a 3rd owner when something major breaks or might break. The 3rd owners are the worst, as a luxury car at a cheap price is never a good idea. They can't afford to pay for the maintenance and repairs on the luxury car and so let them sit and become neglected. It's a shame really because older Mercedes and BMWs are built very well.

Ok, so that one's an auto. But I would <3 a manual so hard, and even a DSG wouldn't be horrendous. It's like a Jalop-E46 M3, with less power and fancy goodies, but all the braking and suspension stuff from the M car.

Since I live where it snows, a 2nd generation Subaru Forester XT ('03-'08) with a manual transmission. Small, light, potent (enough) little 2.5 liter turbo, smooth shifting 5 speed, good handling for a tall wagon and will get you through damn near anything, especially with a set of snow tires. I have an '04 and it's as close as I've found to the perfect all-round car.

When new it was "weird" or "dumb". Give it 15 years and it will be quirky and cool. The Cube and Juke will probably fit into this category in the future.

I can tell you from experience at least with the 550i that I loved every minute I was in that car, but by the end it was biting back something fierce. It would eat tires as though there was no tomorrow and then the electronics began to act up. Mechanically no issues whatsoever but there was always the fear of shit did I crack another rim? My father went through so many rims and tires that BMW actually sent a representative from their tire insurance to look at the car because they couldn't believe it. I am sure you can thank my family that there is now an actual cap on the tire insurance.
