Make that 400 hp and 1100 kg and I'd be willing to give it a try. ;)

What blasphemous douchecanoe thinks that needs a 4 cylinder? It should be V8, loud and mean as all hell sounding

Only if its some insane 3-liter turbo 400+HP engine, with the name "Offenhauser" or "Shelby" on it.

Given a proper power to weight ratio I'd buy it if it had a two cylinder engine.

the reason the Cobra was a great car: HUGE engine, tiny chassis. This is the other way around.
It's a "Porch-uh"

No. With a twin turbo 6 maybe. With a V8 yes. Lightness and balance don't really mean a whole lot if you don't have the power to push it. Plus I'd rather have some batshit crazy tire shredding machine

If this was seriously produced with a 4 cylinder, i'd be happy to go into business with you swapping V8's into them. Possibly the Coyote. Maybe we can be more fuel efficient and offer a 3.5L Twin Turbo EcoBoost V6.
Either way we'd make a shit load of money.

If it has a 4 cylinder, or an I6... it should be re-badged.
It isn't a Cobra, it is an AC Ace.
If it is going to be production ford car, to compete with Miata... it needs a name that is neither Cobra, nor Shelby. Ford Ace, perhaps, if the naming rights are available.
But if the car is light, and the I4 or I6 is healthy... there is no problem with the car itself at all.
Frankly, that would be a great kappa re-body kit on a Solstice GXP, but not with the Cobra, or AC nameplates. It looks like Solstice proportions.

"Not a bad way, if you ask me."
Ford could even ask Mazda to borrow the Miata platform.

Ford couldn't ask to borrow the Miata chassis, as they don't have any ties anymore, and the new Miata chassis will be a joint project with Fiat. For the record, the miata is a tiny chassis and tiny engine, that new cobra looks bigger.

Yes, but I'd prefer it wasn't called a cobra.
By any other name, it's a beautiful design and would be very entertaining with some power in that 4cyl.

4 cylinder =/= weak.
See: Genesis Turbo, Focus ST, ATS turbo, etc.

Good lord yes I would. 4-cylinders are much more capable than they were in the time of the original. It would help keep weight down, make it more attainable, and provide some real-life useability to it.

Well... considering the Mark I had a 260, then a 289, in it I think the current Ecoboost with 270HP could make a magnificent car. Power is very similar. Especially with the advances in suspension geometry we have now. They just have to keep the weight down. 2400 lbs or so.

The refinement of a car with a 4l+ four can be called into question. Not the results it gets.

Yes it can, if it wants, the fact that Ford still owns 3% of Mazda, maters less, they still have manufacturing bases together, like the one that builds small trucks.
And if Mazda will share the platform with Alfa, for the small roadster, and will even build the car, I don't see why can't they build Ford's car, too. Two is good, three is better.

I want small Italian cars with small revvy Italian engines...
I want the same from Japan....
I want cobras to have power and torque from a big old American V8... A new Cobra with four cylinders is an as stupid idea as a Diesel engine in a Lamborghini..... STOP IT NOW!!!

Times changed bub, nobody gives a fuck about national tradition, as long as the car is good, even the Mustang will get a 4cyl., why? Because today's four cylinder engines can kick the ass of 60's and 70's V8's, that's why. The truth is that many old cars were mostly about style, as they were pretty bad if you drove them more than one hour.

I don't have anything against four-cyl engines.... I think they are way underrated, but a little sportscar with a four cylinder engine shouldn't be called "Cobra", as someone else suggested already: call it AC Ace and I'm happy.
Oh and who is really buying a Mustang with a 4cylinder engine. They kinda make it for the European market, but here in Europe everyone who imported a Mustang did so because of the V8. If you want a rear wheel drive sportscar with four cylinders there's way better choices.
