Any recommendations on a new one?

I like Absorbed Glass Mat. They seem to last a lot longer.

What places carry them?

optima is hugely expensive in comparison. Get anything with a lifetime warranty. Die Hard was the thing but since Sears left I don't know beyond a good Autozone type with a great warranty.

Shop warranty and availability.
Since there are only a few companies that make batteries, you're pretty much getting the same thing wherever you shop.
Sears/Walmart have stores everywhere. I would start with them.

Hm, that makes sense.

Interstate Megatron II if you can, they are the most powerful batteries out there. If not, Walmart's Everstart Maxx is the same exact shit and cost way less. Optima batteries...no reason to go that expensive IMO and they do kinda bad in winter from what I've heard.

Most of your regular stores like AZone, Sears, NAPA have them.

I had an Optima Redtop in my track/autocross car, and within a month of sitting at a shop, the thing was so weak the car wouldn't turn over. Admittedly, the high compression of my engine probably means the battery has to work harder to crank it on startup, but I decided the weight savings wasn't worth the hassle. I'd go with something normal and you'll probably be fine.

Second RotaryLover's comments - Consumer Reports just tested a bunch of batteries. Generally Wal-Mart's Everstarts were the best and for cheapest. Interstates were also up there usually. Sears Die Hards were up and down and more expensive.
The AGM batteries were hugely more expensive and the best regular batteries performed just as well as the AGMs.

I'm a big fan of Deka's AGM batteries. Also Odyssey/Sears DieHard Platinum. Expensive but holy hell will these batteries take some abuse. (In my case running a fridge 24/7/365, winching, 30k lumens of LED's, running the stereo all night, sitting out in the cold down to -15F, and don't seem to mind the abuse one bit.)

Sears DieHard Platinums would want a word with you, but yes they are otherwise all the same.

You could also do one of those extreme high capacity/race Braille batteries.

Sears is kind of unknown here, thats why I forgot about it.

The Braille batteries aren't good for DD duty. They do fine in a race aplication where you can have them sitting on a charger before you start the car but repeated starts in one day kinda wear down the Brailles.

I agree with GrindIntosecond- get a battery with a lifetime warranty. When you find such a battery, please let me know. What is the voltage of your battery right now and what are the circumstances surrounding the issues you are having?
