so i decided it would be a good idea to ride the elevator, and have my camera on continuous high speed, (aka hold the shutter and it shoots off as many shots as the card can handle), and hit every floor. Just as the door begins to open, fire....err, i mean, Shutter away! Behind this door was a semi awkward encounter...

Kinja'd!!!

So the door opens. and i just hold down the shutter. I just kept clicking away and he keeps staring. Im just waiting for the door to close, and about 25 shots later it finally closes and my friend and i burst out laughing.

Kinja'd!!!

His stare was solid. He didnt flinch, blink, or move from that position. I almost thought about stopping and explaining, but i kept quiet and let the door shut. That should give him a good story haha.

Immature? maybe. Good idea after actually implementing it? possibly. Could have gone worse i suppose.

Ye photographers of oppo should definitely do this and post up the results of whos behind your door. But its gotta be on continuous mode so you take like 40 pictures of the person in like 10 seconds.

(Amateur) Photographer post?

(Amateur) Photographer post!

I just ordered a Velbon 200R tripod to keep things steady and a set of diopters to help me take pictures of tiny things. Also, I realized my portrait lens is a million times sharper than my 55-200 zoom lens. This is probably not a big surpise to people who know what they're talking about, but I keep seeing zoom lenses referenced as good macro lenses hmmm. I suppose maybe the diopters will help with that as well?

Kinja'd!!!

55-200mm. Not sharp at all.

Kinja'd!!!

35mm. Something else entirely.

Oh and here's a car for your trouble.

hahah yep, this shot isnt my best work, it was more spur of the moment. This photojournalism thing is new to me since i have to have people in my photos, so i cant get away with shootings cars like im used to...

Yeah, i gotta get a 50mm or smaller lens. Ive been needing one more recently and my 55-200 isnt cutting it. Its great for multipurpose, but close ups? no way.

35mm is soo much better. The colors just pop in that picture. And i like the shallow depth of field. Blowing that background out is a preference of mine.

ive got a velbon tripod too. But its pretty basic. I use the bausch & lomb for more precise stuff.

And your car is missing a headlight there 0_-

Yeh, must be next to impossible to foresee the lighting in a room you've never seen. And I'm okay with the velbon being simple. It's a lot better than what I used to have and even that one didn't really hold me back. Budget is my way. If I didn't worry about money I'd have several rooms full of gear instead of a little bag hehe.

I love love love my 35mm. Cheap f1.8 Nikkor lens I bought earlier this year. It really brought joy back into photography for me.

I think the lamp is taken out to feed the turbo or something.

You should totally turn it into an animated .gif.

Yeah it really was. I got lucky and guestimated my shutter to what i thought it was. But even still a little over exposed. However, a little GIMP fixed it. kinda.

Kinja'd!!!

Tis the tradeoff for shooting full manual.

And is that a shot from comiccon? My friend went last week. And then two girls from my photojournalism class went too. They used photos from that for last weeks assignment. It was really a struggle having to explain to the professor what cosplay was. When steampunk came into question, all hope was lost haha.

And that 35mm really isolates the subject. Its crisp. Good shot. Expression makes the shot too. haha .

It's from a comic con. One in Scotland. I really do have to stop adjusting color balance and exposure on my laptop. "Oh yes, this looks good, I'll upload it" open image on stationary with a better screen "F*** why are you still so orange and dark?"

I like how much you managed to recover in that photo. Do you shoot raw files? (Also poor guy hahaha! I hope he doesn't have any anxieties or similar I know I wouldn't get much sleep if that happened to me)

I love taking pictures at conventions. I can tell people get a little weirded out when you take five or more pictures in a row of them, but that's the secret to good photos, isn't it? Can't expect to get a good first shot in poor lighting, no tripod and people moving around everywhere.
I can't even count how many pictures of moving cars I have to take between each acceptable one. 50? I talked to a professional race photographer once who estimated about 1 in 300 photos good enough for publishing. And that's with some nasty expensive gear.

Haha, yea i do all editing on a PC desktop machine. My display is pretty crisp so it certainly helps. But i always have trouble getting my exposure correct because when i look at it on the screen on the camera, i always think its underexposed, but on the computer its just fine. And in turn i tend to over expose a majority of my photos. Im learning to fix that tho haha.

No RAW this time. Since these are just for class, im not going crazy with file size and stuff. But it is JPG FINE. so its the largest next to raw. And i just adjusted brightness and contrast in gimp on that photo. thats it. Dont go crazy. At least thats what im learning haha.

hahaah, i dont even know him. So it will be very awkward to have to explain everything if he ends up finding me somewhere on campus. But dont worry about the subject. The point of shooting people is to get them acting normal. Not posing. Posing is bad (there are exceptions, ie comiccon). Or looking into the camera. Usually they are frowned upon. True art is seen as if the photographer wasnt even there.

Yep take lots and lots of photos. In about 2 hours of shooting today i took 215 photos.... Of those, maybe 40 are usable. of those 40, only about 20 are good enough to publicly display. Thats usually what happens. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos ive taken of my car in various locations. Maybe 20 are actually good. Dont expect perfection out of 10 shots.

Not a bad photo either. posed portraits work well with comiccon or related scenes.
